The effect of notching in thick-walled pipesCorrosion and wear caused partial changes in the cross-sectional areas of thick-walled pipes. Safety and cost consciousness demanded a quantitative investigation of the effect of notching. The stress concentration factors of several notch shapes were determined as a function of the depth of notch by the examination of models with the aid of a photoelastic method of measurement.

Korrosion und Verschleiß bewirkten partielle Querschnittsveränderungen in dickwandigen Rohren. Sicherheitsdenken und Kostenbewußtsein verlangten die quantitative Erfassung der Kerbwirkung. Mit Hilfe des spannungsoptischen Meßverfahrens wurden anhand von Modelluntersuchungen Formzahlen für verschiedene Kerbformen in Abhängigkeit von der Kerbtiefe ermittelt.
