Description:
Spectrometric indices, V magnitudes, and (B-V) colors of the globular cluster M 92 obtained in June 1983 and July 1984 are analyzed. The multislit mechanism utilized for the observations of the cluster is described. Carbon and nitrogen abundances for the M 92 cluster are calculated. It is observed that at the base of the subgiant branch of the cluster, M(0)V = +3, C/Fe equals 0.0, and as the star evolves from the main sequence turnoff, where C/Fe is +0.1, to M(0)V = +1.5 the carbon abundance falls to -0.4. C to N conversion and mixing are studied to explain the large N/Fe abundance detected by Carbon et al. (1982). The data reveal that the C/Fe depletion accounts for the large average N/Fe abundance of +0.65 in subgiants of M 92 at M(0)V = +1.5.
