Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Crystal Structure of the Calcium Nitride Halides Ca2NCl and Ca2NBrCa2NCl and Ca2NBr were prepared as well crystalline powders of light-grey colour by reaction of Ca3N2 and CaX2 in a molar ratio 1:1 in steel ampoules under argon (50 h 740°C; 15 h 1 000°C and 40 h 950°C, resp.). Brownish transparent single crystals were obtained by annealing specimens in molybdenum ampoules (25 d 1 125°C).The compounds crystallize in the anti-α-NaFeO2-structure (Crystallographic data: see “Inhaltsübersicht”). N3- and X- are rhombohedrally distorted cubic close packed. The sequence of the anionic layers is X-—N3-—X-—N3-—…. Ca2+ is shifted towards N3- so that Ca2N+ layers are formed which are held together by the halide ions.
40 h 950°C). Bräunlich transparente Einkristalle erhielt man durch 25tägiges Tempern der Präparate in Molybdänampullen bei 1 125°C.Die Verbindungen kristallisieren im Anti-α-NaFeO2-Typ (R3m, Ca2NCl: a = 366,61(2) pm, c = 1971,1(4) pm, c/a = 5,377(2), Z = 3, drö = 2,815 g · cm-3, d425 = 2,77; Ca2NBr: a = 371, 66(3) pm, c = 2055, 8(4) pm, c/a = 5, 531(2), drö = 3,526 g · cm-3, d425 = 3,51).

Description / Table of Contents: Lithium Aluminium Amide, LiAl(NH2)4-Preparation, X-Ray Investigation, I.R.Spectrum, and Thermal DecompositionThe reaction of lithium and aluminium with liquid ammonia gives LiAl(NH2)4 within some days at temperatures from 80-100°C. Crystals for an X-ray structure determination must be grown very slowly from liquid NH3 starting with thoroughly pulverized amide. The structure analysis was successful including the determination of the positions of the hydrogen atoms of the amide ions. Space group: P21/n; lattice constants: a = 9.478(1) Å, b = 7.351(1) Å, c = 7.398(1) Å, β = 90.26(1)°; Z = 4, R-values (unweighted, weighted with w = 1): 0.042/0.046. The atomic arrangement of LiAl(NH2)4 can formally be described as a new variant of the GaPS4-type structure. The compound is characterized too by its i.r. spectrum. The thermal degradation of LiAl(NH2)4 gives at 180°C amorphous Al2(NH)3 and crystalline LiNH2; at 220°C results already very fine AlN. Above 400°C this AlN reacts with LiNH2 or Li2NH forming Li3AlN2.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Crystal Structure of the Calcium Pnictide Iodides Ca2NI, Ca2PI, and Ca2AsICa2NI was prepared by reaction of Ca3N2 and CaI2 in a molar ratio 1:1 in steel ampoules under argon at 720°C. It is a crystalline, easily hydrolyzable powder of light yellow-gray colour. Single crystals of this compound and of Ca2PI and Ca2AsI were obtained by annealing microcrystalline samples in molybdenum ampoules (Ca2NI: 20 d 920°C, Ca2PI: 5 d 1290°C, Ca2AsI: 4 d 1200°C).Ca2NI crystallizes in the anti-β-RbScO2-structure, Ca2PI and Ca2AsI have the anti-α-NaFeO2-structure (Crystallographic data: see „Inhaltsübersicht“). The compounds are composed of layers Ca2Y+ held together by I- (Y = N, P, and As resp.). The anions are approximately close packed with the layer sequence I-—Y3-—I-—Y3-—⃛. The influence of the size of the pnictide ion on the crystal chemical properties of Ca2NI, Ca2PI, and Ca2AsI is discussed.
Ca2PI und Ca2AsI besitzen die Anti-α-NaFeO2-Struktur (R3m, Ca2PI: a = 431,0(2) pm, c = 2219(1) pm, Z = 3, z(Ca) = 0,2297(2), Ca2AsI: a = 439,7(2) pm, c = 2229(1) pm, Z = 3, z(Ca) = 0,2313(3)).
