Description:
A similarity solution is used to analyse the flow in the thin gap between a floating disk and an air table, the similarity solution being that for an axisymmetric stagnation point but with an upper boundary condition within the boundary layer. Viscous effects increase the height of the floating disk by 20% even at a Reynolds number of 50. Theoretical predictions are compared with experimental observations. The effect of the pressure distribution under the disk on the air flux through the table is examined. © 1994, Cambridge University Press. All rights reserved.
