    Notes: Behavioural contact feeding responses to various chemical incentives were studied in hybrid beluga x Russian sturgeon (Huso huso x Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) fry. Solutions of 29 amino-acids (10–2 M); aqueous extracts of various vegetable, animal and microbiological components of commercial fish diets (30 min infusion of 100 mg in 100 ml), and various artificial and natural substances were tested. The most attractive amino-acids were lysine, methionine and alanine. Most of the dietary extracts tested did not stimulate feeding behaviour, indicating that widespread commercial sturgeon diets (such as ST-07 or ST-04Az) consist of components with little attractiveness for sturgeon fry. In most cases extruded diet components stimulated more bites than granulated ones. Among the diet components, only fish protein concentrate (FPC), dry milk and krill meal stimulated feeding behaviour. Flavour enhancers such as concentrated low molecular weight nitrogenous substancs (CLMNS), sodium glutamate, and “Finnstim” all stimulated feeding behaviour of fry. Some of these substances are recommended as flavour enhancers in sturgeon diets.

    Notes: Abstract Plasma-liquid technologies at atmospheric pressure provide a wide range of possibilities for applications. One of them, the treatment of archaeological artifacts, is presented in this paper. The effects of discharges between a metal electrode and a solution surface and/or an interaction of hollow cathode plasma jet, plasma pencil, with liquid on the corroded surface of bronze and glass artifacts were studied. It was compared with standard low pressure plasma techniques and with the effects of electrolysis. Original and treated objects were characterized by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive analyser used for the spot elemental analyses.

    Notes: Abstract The plasma–solution interaction processes for gliding and “point” arcs between the aqueous solution surface and the metal electrode in the gas phase are studied. The plasma, liquid, and surface zones are taken into consideration. The electric field strength is measured, and the gas and electron temperatures and ion composition are estimated for the plasma zone. The cathode fall, water vaporization rate, and active species current yield due to the radiation chemistry mechanism are determined for the surface zone. The efficiency of oxidation of iodine ions and organic dyes by different types of discharge in the liquid zone are investigated. The difference in action of the various discharge types may be connected with various influences of the plasma and surface zone on the oxidation processes.
