Notes: Abstract The source-free Maxwell equations associated to the massless spin-1 free field equation are considered in curved space-time. The gauge invariance of the theory is discussed by using as starting point the notion of the spinor potential. The structure of the electromagnetic field in the case of the Robertson-Walker space-time is discussed by using the solutions of the massless spin-1 equations previously determined. The flat-universe case of the standard cosmology is studied exactly and considered in some limiting physical situations.

Notes: Abstract The Minkowski causal logic, which is already known to be a complete orthomodular lattice, is found to be also an atomistic and irreducible logic, but to have no other essential properties to be represented in terms of all the subspace of some Hilbert space. Alternative representation of the logic in terms of subspaces of a real vector space or of the states in terms of probability measures are suggested.

Notes: Abstract A straightforward calculation shows that, in contrast to what happens for the Dirac equation in the Kerr metric, the net current of particles is not conserved in the case of the Dirac equation in the Tolman-Bondi and Robertson-Walker space-times.

Notes: Abstract The quantization of the scalar field is reconsidered in some of its basic elements in the context of the Robertson-Walker space-time. The integration of the generalized Klein-Gordon equation is performed by preliminary separation of the equation with the usual separation method. The orthonormal mode solutions are determined by the explicit integration of the resulting angular and radial equations and by standard properties of the time equation. The time evolution given by the standard cosmological model is briefly discussed.

Notes: Abstract The quantization of the Dirac field in thecontext of the Robertson–Walker spacetime isreconsidered in some of its constitutive elements. Theparticular solutions of the Dirac equation previouslydetermined are used to construct the normal mode solutionsin the case of flat, closed, and open space-time. Theprocedure is based on a general standard definition ofinner product between solutions of the Dirac equation that is applied by making use of anintegral property of the separated time equation. Theopen-space case requires the recurrence relations offunctions associated to solutions of the Diracequation.

Notes: Abstract The complete prediction of diffraction forelectrons passing through one or two slits is obtainedfrom the pure wave propagation governed by theSchrodinger equation. By the further assumption ofelectromagnetic interaction between electrons and slits it isshown that, as already predicted by stochasticelectrodynamics with spin, there exist lateral maxima onthe diffraction pattern corresponding to the edges of the slits.

Notes: Abstract The formulation of the Dirac equation withelectromagnetic field for a general space–time isspecialized to the Robertson–Walker metric. For aclass of physically meaningful electromagneticpotentials the angular part of the wave function separates asin the free-field case. The scheme is explicitly studiedfor a Coulomb potential. By using a realisticapproximation method one recovers the discrete energy levels of the hydrogen atom in Minkowski space. In case of static space–time, the result is exactfor zero curvature, while it is approximate for nonzerocurvature. The very good order of accuracy of the result is established by a comparison withsimilar qualitative and perturbative results.

Notes: Abstract The diffraction pattern for particles passingthrough N slits is obtained by a truncation assumptionon the Gaussian wave function when passing the slits andby pure wave propagation governed by the Schrodinger equation with boundaries. The standard limitingsituations give the usual results. In case of a greatnumber of equal and equally separated slits thecalculations are performed by considering also theenergy band structure induced by the periodic boundarygeometry on the initial conditions. The results, whichare qualitatively satisfactory in both cases, do notagree completely in general nor in the limiting cases.

Notes: Abstract The massless spin-1 free field equation is studied via the Newman-Penrose formalism and separated by the Chandrasekhar-Teukolski method. The temporal and angular equations are explicitly integrated. The radial equations are solved in the flat-universe case. The closed-universe case shows, in principle, the existence of a discrete spectrum of the energy of the massless particles.
