Notes: Carbosilanes synthesized from high-pressure treatment of polysilane, were fractional distilledand separated. Carbosilanes, characterized by IR and 1HNMR measurement, are composed of linear andcyclic carbosilanes with some Si-H end groups. Crosslinking occurred between carbosilanes and divinylbenzene and gave gel content of 52%, and further ceramic yield of 36% upon pyrolysis at 1200°C. Thepyrolyzates contain microcrystal SiC and free carbon, which was approved by XRD measurement

Notes: In this paper, 3D Cf/Si-Ti-C-O composites were prepared with a polytitanocarbosilane (PTC)via polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process, and accordingly the mechanical, oxidation resistingand thermal shock resisting properties were investigated. The composites with density of 1.93g·cm-3 showrather high flexural strength (485.3MPa) and fracture toughness (19.95MPa⋅m1/2), and typical non-brittlefracture failure mode. After oxidation treatment at 1300°C for 10 minutes in air, the flexural strength ofthe samples is 306.2MPa, with 63% strength retention. After 5 times of thermal shock tests from roomtemperature to 1300°C, the flexural strength of the samples is 408.9MPa, about 85% strength retention.SEM observation also testifies non-brittle failure because many fibers are pulled out on the fracturesurface. After oxidation treatment, the matrix shows no changes from XRD measurement

Notes: The nanocomposite coatings were prepared on the surface of PVC substrate using spinningtechnique with attempts of introducing nanosized iron oxide particles with different morphology into theorganic-inorganic hybrid matrices. The hybrid matrices were derived from 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GLYMO) and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with a process of hydrolyzing and condensation.Nanosized iron oxide particles were synthesized by hydrolysis of FeCl3 solution at different pH value anddifferent temperature. The effects of different additions on nanomechanical properties of thenanocomposite coatings were investigated using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electronmicroscopy (TEM) and MTS Nano Indenter XP system. It was found that the acicular α-FeOOH andspherical α-Fe2O3 particles were synthesized, both of them dispersed homogeneously. Nanoindentationand nanoscratch behaviors of the nanoindenter system showed that both of the nanocomposite coatingsreinforced the nanomechanical properties of the PVC obviously. Especially, the contribution of acicularα-FeOOH was more remarkable than the spherical α-Fe2O3

Notes: This process and parameters of fabricating light calcium carbonate from limestone werediscussed in the paper. Raw limestone in experiment comes from Luquan city, Hebei province. Theresults of chemistry and XRD analysis indicate that ingredient of this limestone is mainly calciumcarbonate, dolomite, silicon dioxide, which takes 83.81%, 11.03% and 1.67% separately, and a few ofother impurities. The process includes calcinations, assimilation, carbonation, drying and others. It wasascertainable that the time of calcinations exceeded 5 hours at 850~ 950[removed info] and loss of calcinations was42%. The time of assimilation was around 25 minutes at 70~90[removed info]The time of carbonation was about 30minutes at 50~90[removed info], and the airflow was about 160L/min and PH of latex after carbonation was 7.2~7.4.The light calcium carbonate product was obtained in experiment, whose fine sphere size was about 10nanometer, with the agglomeration particle size 2~3μm. The degree of white improved from 42 to 76. Asa result, the comprehensive properties of the produce were improved consumedly

Notes: Based on the first order shear deformation plate theory, a numerical analysis model ofcomposite laminated plates with distributed PZT actuators under thermal load was established, andthe corresponding formulae of finite element method were presented considering the effect ofadhesive layer between PZT actuator and plate. For a two ends simply supported plate, the thermaldeformation of the plates induced by different temperatures on the upper and lower surfaces and thethermal deformation compensation for the plates using PZT actuators were studied, then theoptimization of voltages applied to each actuator was discussed

Notes: The main chemistry ingredients of the shale in Baoding, China, are SiO2 and Al2O3, and themineral components are quartz, feldspar and mica. The shale was sintered to produce pottery at 1000 ~1300°C and its deposit density and expansion ratio were measured. The compressive strength, apparentdensity, water absorption, etc, of some sintered samples with expansion ratio more than 1.5 weremeasured according to GB/T17431.2-1998. When sintered at 1150°C for 15 min, the expansion ratio ofthe shale is 1.96. When sintered at 1200°C for 10 min, the expansion ratio is 2.00. The performances ofthe prepared pottery accord with GB/T17431.2-1998: the compressive strength is 3.8MPa with theexpansion ratio 1.96, the compressive strength is 4.2MPa with the expansion ratio 2.00. The waterabsorption is 4.9~5.8%, according with GB/T17431.2-1998

Notes: Nanoscaled silicon cone arrays were formed on mirror-polished silicon wafers by plasmaetching using hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) system. A mixture of CH4 and H2was introduced during silicon cone formation. AlN films were coated on Si cone arrays using radiofrequency (RF) magnetron sputtering system. Scanning electrons microscopy (SEM) was employedto characterize the morphology of silicon cone arrays before and after AlN coating. The fieldemission characteristics of AlN coated silicon cone arrays, uncoated silicon cone arrays and AlNfilms were studied and compared, and the silicon cone arrays with AlN coating showed the bestenhanced electron emission properties due to the negative electron affinity of AlN coating layer andthe high aspect ratio of silicon cone. For AlN coated silicon cone arrays, a slight hysteresis betweenthe upward and downward voltage sweeps was also observed and the field emission currents fromAlN coated Si nanocone arrays decreased with the increase of the thickness of AlN films, whichcould be mainly attributed to the space charge buildup in AlN film with wide band gap

Notes: Automatic recognition of road distresses is of considerable interest since it facilitates road maintenance. We propose the use of artificial life for pavement distress survey. All artificial organisms in the artificial life algorithm exhibit the principle of cooperation which can be found in computer virtues and the hunting process of predators. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach has a strong effect on noise removal such as elimination of oil stains and removal of dark spots which is one of the most difficult problems in pavement distress survey

Notes: Low agglomerating spherical α-Fe2O3 nanopowders were synthesized by catalytic phasetransformation in hydrothermal reaction and then dried through freeze-drying. It was found that theas-synthesized particles were spherical and the particle size results obtained from the differentmeasurement methods, including BET, XRD, TEM, SEM and laser particle size analyzer, were almostthe same, implying that the α-Fe2O3 nanopowders were low agglomerating
