Description / Table of Contents:
The Arctic basin: results from the Russian drifting stations provides for the first time a unique insight into the work and achievements of the drifting stations established in the Arctic basin in 1937. The main aims and goals of the stations are set out, as are the methods of organizing the drifting stations, gear and equipment for life support and scientific observations. The main results of scientific analysis of data obtained during meteorological, oceanographic, ice and geophysical observations are presented, and numerous illustrations and tables help shed further light on the Arctic region. The arctic basin provides a concise summary of the major results of the Arctic Ocean studies based on data obtained from the North Pole drifting stations and from high latitudinal airborne expeditions previously published only in Russian; contains extensive illustrative, carthographic and tabular materials that can be used by a wide range of scientists investigating the nature of the Arctic region; details the organization of work and everyday life of personnel on the drifting stations.
