Notes: In the API X65 steel, effects of rolling and cooling conditions on microstructure andmechanical properties were studied. In the case of accelerated cooling after multi-pass rolling in thehigh/low unrecrystallized range, the tensile strength was 574-670 MPa and the impact toughness was74-109 J. In the case of accelerated cooled to 550℃ and then interrupted by air cooling, on the otherhand, those values were 524-538 MPa and 100-135 J, respectively. Whereas the former exhibited thecontinuous yielding, the latter showed discontinuous yielding. In addition, yield ratio increased from0.59-0.67 to 0.85-0.87, accompanied with the enhancement of yield strength. Ultrafine ferrite grainsformed by the strain induced dynamic transformation during the severe rolling and second phasesformed during cooling were observed. In accelerated cooling and interrupted cooling conditions, mainsecond phases formed after cooling were martensite and pearlite, respectively. Separation crackingmostly observed at interfaces of ferrite matrix and second phases, may be attributed to the intrinsicinterfacial weakness

Notes: ZnO nanostructures have been synthesized on graphite substrates by thermal evaporationof ZnO powder without a metal catalyst at a temperature of 1300[removed info]. The colors of the as-synthesizedproducts gradually change from white and brown to gray as the distance from the source materialincreases. ZnO particles were formed at higher temperature region. ZnO particles gradually changedinto ZnO nanowire as the temperature decreased. Finally, ZnO nanowires disappeared completely andonly Zn particles were observed at lower temperature region

Notes: This study was aimed at evaluating the durability of the car body for rubber-tired light railvehicles according to Korean-standardized specifications for light rail vehicles (size, strength, structure, weight, etc.). The strengths of the car body were analyzed under two weight conditions (tareweight and maximum passenger weight) by using the finite element method. Based on the results ofthe analysis, dynamic stresses were measured by using strain gauges, including rosette gauges, whilethe train was running on the test track. Various experimental results have verified the durability andsafety of the car body

Notes: Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive for a biomimetic actuator material due to itsmerits in terms of lightweight, dry condition, large displacement output, low actuation voltage andbiodegradability. However, the performance of EAPap actuator is so sensitive to humidity that highhumidity is required. We report a robust EAPap actuator that can be activated in room humiditycondition. The EAPap is made by dissolving cellulose fibers into a solution using DMAc solvents, and made into a sheet by using casting. Thin electrodes are deposited on the cellulose paper tocomprise an EAPap actuator. The fabrication process and the performance evaluation of EAPap arepresented in terms of free displacement with respect to frequency and actuation voltage

Notes: Film-coating on the surface of titanium was investigated by hydrothermal treatments witha maximal pressure of 6.3 MPa (280ºC) in CaO solution and water to improve bioactivity andbiocompatibility. As a result, calcium titanate (CaTiO3) film was formed on the titanium surface. The surface-coated titanium was immersed in a simulated body fluid (SBF) to estimate itsbioactivity. Apatite precipitation was observed on all hydrothermal-treated titanium surfaces afterimmersion in SBF for 4 weeks. In particular, the apatite precipitation of titanium treated with 6.3MPa in CaO solution was clearer and larger in amount than those of all other hydrothermal-treatedspecimens. The results suggest that surface modification of titanium with high-pressurehydrothermal treatments can be expected to improve bioactivity and biocompatibility

Notes: An injection molding technology is developed to replicate pillars in micro/nano scale on the thinplastic substrate. Two types of pillar are to be replicated and one is square type of 10um x 10um,the other is circular type whose diameter is in range of 100 nm ~ 300 nm. For both types of thepillars, the height is about 250 nm. A pattern master is first fabricated on the photo resist(PR) layerspin coated to about 250nm of thickness on chrome/quartz plate by patterning e-beam writing andthen developing the PR. The patterns on the PR master are transferred by nickel electro-plating tofabricate rigid nickel stamper. Using this nickel stamper, a substrate with nano pillars on its surfaceis injection molded by optimizing the conditions to fabricate DNA separating chip

Notes: The application of electroactive polymer devices requires the availability of theirproperties at various operating conditions. This in turn necessitates a structure-property relationshipbased on an in-depth understanding of the underlying mechanism responsible for their strain-fieldresponse. Cellulose-based Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) has been studied as an attractive ElectroActive Polymer (EAP) material for artificial muscles. The feasibility of EAPap material as anactuator/sensor application is greatly dependant on piezoelectric effect. In this paper, converse anddi rect piezoelectric ef fect s of Electro-Active Paper materials are studied to characterizepiezoelectric effects of EAPap. All experiments were conducted in an environmental chamber thatcan control temperature and humidity

Notes: High speed multi pass wet wire drawing has become very common for production of highcarbon steel cord because of the increase in customer demand and production rates in real industrialfields. Although the wet wire drawing is preformed at a high speed usually above 1000 m/min, greaterspeed is required to improve productivity. However, in the high carbon steel wire drawing, the wiretemperature rises greatly as the drawing speed increase. The excessive temperature rise makes thewire more brittle and finally leads to wire breaks. In this study, the variations in wire temperatureduring wet wire drawing process were investigated. A multi pass wet wire drawing process with 21passes, which was used to produce steel cord, was redesigned by considering the increase intemperature. Through a wet wire drawing experiment, it was possible to increase the maximum finalspeed from 1000 m/min to 2000 m/min

Notes: The purpose of this study was to determine if a strontium (Sr)-containing mixing liquidcould be used as an exchanging agent for calcium phosphate cement crystallized with Sr-replacinghydroxyapatite (Sr-HAP). Alpha-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) powder was mixed with Srcontainingand phosphorous (P)-containing solutions, that is, SrCl2 or SrCl2+CaCl2 solution andNaH2PO4 or Na2HPO4 solution. After storage in the incubator for 7 days, the α-TCP crystals in allset cements were confirmed to have been transformed to HAP crystals by the mixing liquids. TheXRD patterns of the set cements implied that the Sr-HAP could be precipitated by using Srcontainingsolutions as the mixing liquid because of the chemical shift of a peak (002) in XRD ofthe HAP crystal. The solubility (shaking immersion in physiological saline) of set cementscontaining Sr was markedly higher than that of set cement not containing Sr. These results revealedthat the Sr-containing solutions used as mixing liquids for α-TCP cement acted as precipitatingagents for Sr-HAP. Sr-HAP-precipitating cement could be useful because of its pharmacologicalactivity with high solubility
