Description: This paper discusses a rapid production of slope mapping using multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The objective of this study is to determine the accuracy of the photogrammetric results based on novel method of multi-rotor UAV images as well as to analyze the slope error distribution that are obtained from the UAV images. This study only concentrates on multi-rotor UAV which also known as Hexacopter. An operator can control the speed of multi-rotor UAV during flight mission. Several ground control points and checkpoints were established using Real Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK- GPS) at the slope area. Ground control points were used in exterior orientation during image processing in sequence to transform image coordinates into local coordinate system. Checkpoints were established at the slope area for accuracy assessment. A digital camera, Sony NEX-5N was used for image acquisition of slope area from UAV platforms. The digital camera was mounted verticall...

Description: As the amount of reactive nitrogen (N) generated and emitted increases the amount of N deposition and its contribution to eutrophication or harmful algal blooms in the coastal zones are becoming issues of environmental concern. To quantify N deposition in coastal seas of China we selected six typical coastal sites from North to South in 2011. Concentrations of NH 3 , HNO 3 , NO 2 , particulate NH 4 + (pNH 4 + ) and pNO 3 − ranged from 1.97– 4.88, 0.46 –1.22, 3.03 –7.09, 2.24 – 4.90 and 1.13–2.63 μ g N m −3 at Dalian (DL), Changdao (CD), Linshandao (LS), Fenghua (FH), Fuzhou (FZ), and Zhanjiang (ZJ) sites, respectively. Volume-weighted NO 3 − –N and NH 4 + –N concentrations in precipitation varied from 0.46 to 1.67 and 0.47 to 1.31 mg N L −1 at the six sites. Dry, wet and total deposition rates of N were 7.8–23.1, 14.2–25.2 and 22.0 ...

Description: To develop a plastic deep-well pump, three methods are proposed on structural and forming technique. First, the major hydraulic components are constructed by plastics, and the connection component is constructed by steel. Thus the pump structure is more concise and slim, greatly reducing its weight and easing its transportation, installation, and maintenance. Second, the impeller is designed by maximum diameter method. Using same pump casing, the stage head is greatly increased. Third, a sealing is formed by impeller front end face and steel end face, and two slots are designed on the impeller front end face, thus when the two end faces approach, a lubricating pair is formed, leading to an effective sealing. With above methods, the pump's axial length is greatly reduced, and its stage head is larger and more efficient. Especially, the pump's axial force is effectively balanced. To examine the above proposals, a prototype pump is constructed, and its testing results show that the...

Description: Laem Pho in Surat Thani, southern province of Thailand is one of the most important historic site on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand. In this work, the enameled glass fragments which looked-like Islamic glass mainly excavated from this site were analyzed using SEM-EDS, PIXE and μ-XRF, in order to understand the chemical composition by comparing the archaeological data and topology. The structure of the enameled decoration was also studied. The resulting data indicated that high-magnesia alkali-lime silicate glass was produced. The presence of transition metals such as copper, iron and manganese were affected on the glass colorations. Typological classifications, technological observations and comparative studies serve to clarify the development and cultural inter-relationships of various glass objects along the trade and exchange networks in ancient maritime.

Description: The purpose of the study is to evaluate resistance to electrochemical corrosion of wire made of X10CrNi18-8 stainless steel designed for use in cardiology treatment. The influence of strain formed in the premodeling process and methods of wire surface preparation to corrosive resistance in artificial plasma solution were analysed. Wire corrosion tests were carried out in the solution of artificial plasma. Resistance to electrochemical corrosion was evaluated on the ground of recorded curves of anodic polarization by means of potentiodynamic method. Potentiodynamic tests carried out enabled to determine how the resistance to pitting corrosion of wire changes, depending on strain formed in the premodeling process as well as on the method of wire surface preparation. For evaluation of phenomena occurring on the surface of tested steel, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was applied. Deterioration of corrosive properties of wire along with the increase in the formed strain...

Description: A series of ternary tellurite based glasses [(TeO2)70 (B203)30]100–x [ZnO]x glasses with different compositions of ZnO (x= 5 to 30 wt.% in steps of 5 wt.%) have been synthesized by melt quenching method. The role of ZnO to the glasses structure was studied by IR spectroscopy. FTIR spectra revealed broad, weak and strong absorption bands in the investigated range of wavenumber from 280–4000 cm−1 which associated with their corresponding bond modes of vibration and the glass structure. The indirect optical band gap and the direct optical band gap are in the range 2.08–3.12 and 1.54–2.36 eV, respectively. A decrease in the values of energy band gap Eg may come down to the reason that the non-bridging oxygen ion content increases with increasing ZnO content and shifting the band edge to lower energies. The optical band gap and Urbach energies were calculated from the absorption spectra measured between 190 and 900 nm at room temperature. The refractive index, n of the glasses change...

Description: Spark plasma sintering (SPS) and Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis/ quick pressing (SHS/QP) methods were used to fabricate nanotubes reinforced alumina. The difference in microstructure was discussed. In the SHS/QP process, the maximum densification temperature is 1660°C and the heating rate is about 1600°C /min. The whole densification process in SHS/QP is very short, which is much beneficial to protect the nanotubes and restrain the growing of grains. The fracture toughness of the sample prepared by SHS/QP is up to 4.9MPam ½ for 1mass% CNTs/Al 2 O 3 composites, which shows excellent toughening effects of nanotubes.

Description: Novel CoCrFeNiTiAl x (x:molar ratio, other elements are equimolar) high-entropy alloys were prepared by vacuum arc melting and these alloys were subsequently annealed at 1000 °C for 2 h. The annealing effects on structure and mechanical properties were investigated. Compared with the as-cast alloys, there are many complex intermetallic phases precipitated from the solid solution matrix in the as-annealed alloys with Al content lower than Al 1.0 . Only simple BCC solid solution structure appears in the as-annealed Al 1.5 and Al 2.0 alloys. This kind of alloys exhibit high resistance to anneal softening. Most as-annealed alloys possess even higher Visker hardness than the as-cast ones. The as-annealed Al 0.5 alloys shows the highest compressive strength while the Al 0 alloy exhibits the best ductility, which is about 2.6 GPa and 13%, respectively. The CoCrFeNiTiAl x high-entropy alloys possess integrated high temp...

Description: The effect of a medium-density DC-current and its direction on the directional solidification microstructure and cooling behavior of Pb-80wt%Sn alloy were studied. Experimental results indicated that the microstructure was refined with DC compared to the one without. With the increase of DC density, the primary ( λ 1 ) and secondary ( λ 2 ) dendrite arm spacing of the primary phase decrease clearly. It is also found that not only the intensity of the DC current but also its direction affects the microstructure. The size of λ 1 and λ 2 , in samples treated with positive DC, decreases more clearly than in those with negative DC. The interface morphology in samples processed without and with DC is different when the current direction is changed. Finally, the mechanism of microstructure evolution is discussed.

Description: Stray grains which may appear during production of single-crystal blades, can severely deprave the performance of turbine blades. This investigation primarily explores the conditions of stray grains formed in DZ417G superalloy by using samples with varying cross sections. The effect of withdrawal velocities on the microstructure of DZ417G superalloy in directional solidification is investigated. It is observed that the growth direction of dendrites did not change, and no stray grain appears in the re-entrant corner at low withdrawal velocity. Nevertheless, the stray grains grow up when the withdrawal velocity is higher than 150μm/s. The temperature profiles in the region of the cross section change at different velocities are examined. The increase of undercooling in the corner of the cross section change leads to the formation of stray grains.
