Description: Author(s): Alberto Biella, Leonardo Mazza, Iacopo Carusotto, Davide Rossini, and Rosario Fazio By means of numerical simulations and the input-output formalism, we study photon transport through a chain of coupled nonlinear optical cavities subject to uniform dissipation. Photons are injected from one end of the chain by means of a coherent source. The propagation through the array of cavitie... [Phys. Rev. A 91, 053815] Published Tue May 12, 2015

Description: Author(s): Feng Mei, Jia-Bin You, Wei Nie, Rosario Fazio, Shi-Liang Zhu, and L. C. Kwek We introduce a conceptually simple and experimentally feasible method to realize and detect photonic topological Chern insulators with a one-dimensional circuit quantum electrodynamics lattice. By periodically modulating the couplings in this lattice, we show that this one-dimensional model can be m… [Phys. Rev. A 92, 041805(R)] Published Mon Oct 12, 2015

Description: Author(s): Maximilian Keck, Davide Rossini, and Rosario Fazio We demonstrate that persistent currents can be induced in a quantum system in contact with a structured reservoir, without the need of any applied gauge field. The working principle of the mechanism leading to their presence is based on the extension to the many-body scenario of nonreciprocal Lindbl... [Phys. Rev. A 98, 053812] Published Thu Nov 08, 2018

Description: Author(s): Alberto Biella, Florent Storme, José Lebreuilly, Davide Rossini, Rosario Fazio, Iacopo Carusotto, and Cristiano Ciuti We explore theoretically the nonequilibrium photonic phases of an array of coupled cavities in presence of incoherent driving and dissipation. In particular, we consider a Hubbard model system where each site is a Kerr nonlinear resonator coupled to a two-level emitter, which is pumped incoherently.... [Phys. Rev. Description: Author(s): Rosario Martinez-Herrero and Alejandro Manjavacas We present a theoretical framework for the study of surface-plasmon polariton (SPP) packets propagating along a lossy metal-dielectric interface within the paraxial approximation. Using a rigorous formulation based on the plane-wave spectrum formalism, we introduce a set of modes that constitute a c… [Phys. Rev. A 94, 063829] Published Thu Dec 15, 2016

Description: Author(s): Clemens Müller, Joshua Combes, Andrés Rosario Hamann, Arkady Fedorov, and Thomas M. Stace Recent theoretical studies of a pair of atoms in a one-dimensional waveguide find that the system responds asymmetrically to incident fields from opposing directions at low powers. Since there are no explicit time-reversal symmetry-breaking elements in the device, this has caused some debate. Here w... [Phys. Rev. A 96, 053817] Published Wed Nov 08, 2017

Description: Author(s): José Lebreuilly, Alberto Biella, Florent Storme, Davide Rossini, Rosario Fazio, Cristiano Ciuti, and Iacopo Carusotto We introduce a frequency-dependent incoherent pump scheme with a square-shaped spectrum as a way to study strongly correlated photons in arrays of coupled nonlinear resonators. This scheme can be implemented via a reservoir of population-inverted two-level emitters with a broad distribution of trans... [Phys. Rev. A 96, 033828] Published Mon Sep 18, 2017

Description: Air transportation is critical to U.S. and Global economic vitality. However, energy and climate issues challenge aviations ability to be sustainable in the long term. Aviation must dramatically reduce fuel use and related emissions. Energy costs to U.S. airlines nearly tripled between 1995 and 2011, and continue to be the highest percentage of operating costs. The NASA Advanced Air Transports Technology Project addresses the comprehensive challenge of enabling revolutionary energy efficiency improvements in subsonic transport aircraft combined with dramatic reductions in harmful emissions and perceived noise to facilitate sustained growth of the air transportation system. Advanced technologies and the development of unconventional aircraft systems offer the potential to achieve these improvements. The presentation will highlight the NASA vision of revolutionary systems and propulsion technologies needed to achieve these challenging goals. Specifically, the primary focus is on the N+3 generation; that is, vehicles that are three generations beyond the current state of the art, requiring mature technology solutions in the 2025-30 timeframe, which are envisioned as being powered by Hybrid Electric Propulsion Systems.
