    Description: Oceanic manganese nodules samples were obtained from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. They were subsamples of the powdered material used for studies of the major and minor element geochemistry of the deposits by Clavert and Price, 1977 (see Related to: reference). The powdered samples were leached with 0.1 M HCl at a ratio of 1:4 by weight at room temperature for 140 days after which the leachate and the residue were separately analyzed. The determinations of Fe, Mn, (atomic absorption spectrophotometry) and P (colorimetry) were made on the leachate. The REE were analysed by mixed-solvent ion exchange and mass spectrometric isotope dilution. Isotope analyses were performed on an A.E.I. MS5 mass spectrometer. RMS precision were generally 2% (and often 1%). except for La (5%). Eight replicate analyses of USGS standard rock BCR-1 wre used for comparison.

    Description: Knowledge of the oxidation states and of the chemical speciation of metals in ferromanganese deposits is of interest to aid in understanding the association of metals with the major oxyhydroxide phases and to gain further insight into the mechanisms of metal uptake. This type of analysis was conducted on ferromanganese nodules and crusts from the Pacific obtained from collections at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. For the bulk analyses, splits of the nodular material were ground in agate and analyzed by x-ray emission spectroscopy (XRE).

    Description: Planktonic foraminiferal oxygen isotopes (δ¹⁸O), UK'37 and UK'37-derived SST of sediment core GIK18252-3 from the South China Sea (SCS). Planktonic foraminiferal δ18O values (versus Pee Dee belemnite standard) were determined on 20 - 25 specimens of G. ruber (white) sensu stricto (size fraction 250-400µm) at the Leibniz Laboratory at the University of Kiel. Sample preparation and UK'37 measurements were done at the Leibniz Laboratory at the University of Kiel. UKʹ37 was converted to temperature using the temperature calibration of Pelejero and Grimalt (1997; https://doi.org/10.1016/S0016-7037(97)00280-9). The record covers the past ~15.9 kyr.

    Description: AMS-14C ages of planktonic foraminifera tests (T. sacculifer) of sediment core GIK18252-3. The radiocarbon age determinations were carried out at the Tandetron AMS facility at the Leibniz Laboratory at the University of Kiel, following standard procedures (Nadeau et al., 1997; Schleicher et al., 1998).
