Description: CTD profiles of the water column beneath Ekstroem Ice Shelf and the adjacent Atka Bay. Ice shelf profiles were made through hot-water drilled access holes in the ice sheld and the profile in Atka Bay was taken through a sea-ice lead. All data were collected in the 2018/2019 Antarctic season, as part of the AWI-BGR Sub-EIS-Obs project, in order to investigate oceanographic properties of the water masses beneath and adjacent to the ice shelf.

Description: We estimated monthly mean basal melt rates in the Lagrangian frame from autonomous phase-sensitive radar (ApRES) measurements at the center of Ekström Ice Shelf, Antarctica (70.82°S, 8.73°W) between April 2020 and December 2022. The data we recorded with a measurement interval of one hour. Basal melt rates are based on the analysis of firn densification, strain thinning, and the change in ice thickness from the determination of vertical displacements. We calculated the mean basal melt rate as well as the standard deviation, and maximum for each month.

Description: Support Force Glacier (SFG) is a large ice stream feeding into the Filchner Ice Shelf. The active seismic survey is recorded at the sheet-shelf transition of SFG. We map the bed while grounded, the ocean cavity around a surface channel at the ice shelf and its counterpart at the base, the basal channel, and the seabed. The survey consists of 5 seismic reflection profiles, 2 along-flow profiles and 3 across-flow profiles. The 2.42GB seismic data were recorded with a 300 m long streamer consisting of 96 30Hz p-wave sensors. The sample rate is 0.5 ms, record length 3000 ms. Description: Time series of multi-annual (2015-2019) in-situ measurements of ocean hydrography (temperature, salinity) and ocean current velocities from five hot-water borehole deployed moorings inside the Filchner Ronne Ice Shelf cavity (Southern Weddell Sea, Antartcica), and adjacent ice shelf basal melting radar data (ApRES). Instrument raw data that has been collected as part of the joint FISP (AWI) and FISS (BAS) project has been processed, low pass filtered and interpolated onto a common time axis for synoptic analysis presented in Observed interannual changes beneath Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf linked to large scale atmospheric circulation by T. Hattermann et al. (accepted).

Description: Sub-ice shelf ocean hydrography (temperature, salinity) data were recovered from moorings FSW1 and FSE2 on Filchner Ice Shelf during the FISP-Air airplane campaign in December 2022 - January 2023. Due to different technical failures, both moorings did not transmit their oceanographic data via iridium for several months/years. The sites were visited by plane and missing data were downloaded from a total of 11 SBE37IMP MicroCATs via the inductive modem tether. The downloaded data include the periods 01/2022 – 01/2023 (FSW1), 07/2019 – 10/2019 (FSE2), and 08/2020 – 01/2023 (also FSE2). The moorings were also successfully repaired in the field, and have since resumed sending their data via iridium again. The attached .zip file contains the original logfiles as recorded in the field (.cap files), selected auxiliary information, as well as a cleaned version of these data files. This sub-dataset will be merged with the existing time series since 2016 to yield a fully processed and quality-controlled dataset, which will be published separately. It was also planned to visit moorings FNE1 and FNE2, but these sites could not be reached due to challenging weather conditions. More campaign details are available in the attached field report. This data is part of the joint FISP (AWI) and FISS (BAS) projects.
