Notes: Abstract Electrical measurements, performed on As-implanted and laser-annealed silicon diodes, have shown poorI–V characteristics with high values of the recombination current and anomalous C-V characteristics. This behavior is attributed to the existence of defects, created during the ion-implantation process, that can not been annealed by the laser treatment. A best improve in the electrical characteristics is obtained after a post-laser annealing in furnace at 600 °C, however the defects are not completely removed.

Notes: Abstract Acceptor levels related to I, II, IV, and V group impurities in indium selenide are studied by means of the Hall effect, deep-level-transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and photoluminescence. Activation energies for hole concentrations in the range from 200 to 300 meV have been measured. A reversible change of sign of the Hall voltage has been observed below 215 K. This behaviour can be explained through a model in which acceptor levels are assumed to be shallow and interlayer planar precipitates of ionized shallow donors create potential wells that behave as deep donors and in which a low concentration of bidimensional free electrons can exist. This model also explains the capacitance-voltage characteristics of both ITO/p-InSe and Au/p-InSe barriers. DLTS results are coherent with this model: hole traps in high concentration located about 570 meV above the valence band are detected. Photoluminescence also confirms the shallow character of acceptor levels. A broad band whose intensity is related to p conductivity appears in the PL spectra of low resistivity p-InSe. The shape and temperature dependence of this band can be explained through self-activated photoluminescence in a complex center in which the ground acceptor level must be at about 50 meV above the valence band.

Notes: Abstract New equilibrium melting point data, for polyethylene containing chain defects, are tested in the light of random copolymer predictions. A simplified expression for the melting point depression of random copolymers containing small amounts of non-crystallizable units is derived. Non-equilibrium melting data for rapidly quenched polyethylene samples are also reported. The fusion enthalpyΔH∘(X), and the surface free energyσ e for crystals containing defects are evaluated using crystallinity, equilibrium meltingtemperatures and X-ray long period data. It is shown that increasing defect penetration within crystals induces a decrease ofΔH∘(X) withX in accordance with theoretical predictions. Finallyσ e is, similarly, shown to decrease with increasing number of chain defects attached to the crystal surface.

Notes: Abstract Si-Cr films of variable composition between pure silicon and pure chromium have been deposited by co-sputtering on to glass substrates and thermally oxidized silicon wafers. In order to assess the applications of the Si-Cr films to thin film resistors, the electrical characteristics of the films have been determined as a function of composition, thickness, thermal treatments, etc.

Notes: Abstract The duplex nature of Ta2O5 films formed in H3PO4 electrolytes with different concentrations has been chanyotarired by net weight gain measurements of the films during the anodic oxidation, as well by capacitance and etch-rate measurements of the oxide films. The density and permittivity of each layer of the films formed in different concentrations of the electrolyte have been calculated.

Notes: Abstract In the centrifugal horizontal casting of steel pipes, the normally used rotational speed results in an acceleration of 100 times gravity within the liquid metal layer. Due to such centrifugal forces liquid metal seems to have a body rotation. However metallurgical analysis of pipes show spatial variations in solidification structure which can only originate from recirculating flows. The present study is concerned with the analysis of such stirring motions. Both theoretical and experimental approaches are presented.

Notes: Abstract The utilization of some nickel basic salts, nickel hydroxychloride and nickel hydroxynitrate, as inorganic precursors in the obtention of nickel powder, has been studied. When these materials are thermally decomposed in an X-ray high-temperature diffraction chamber, pure nickel is formed as the only compound at about 700° C but if nickel hydroxide is the starting material, small amounts of nickel oxide are always present even if the temperature is raised up to 900° C.

Notes: Summary Unit cell expansion data for branched polyethylene (PE) rapidly quenched from the melt are examined with reference to the level of chain defects incorporated within the crystal lattice. The data presented here complement earlier studies and show that the incorporation of defects, ɛc, after quenching is twice as large as the penetration obtained for slowly cooled samples. The parallel increase of the K-distortions parameter with ɛc is in direct support of the inclusion of a large fraction (40%) of bulky defects (butyl or larger) within the polyethylene lattice.
