Description: Environment can be better managed only if people have understanding and appreciation of it. This can be achieved only through environmental education, and that is one reason why environmental education is so important and essential at present. Another is to understand our complete dependence on The Biosphere as our only life-suppert and safeguard it against increasing population-pressures.The basic aim of environmental education is to make individuals and communities understand the complex nature of natural and Man-made environments resulting from the interaction of their biological, physical, social, economic, and cultural, aspects. There are several major requirements which are likely to contribute to its success. These are interdisciplinarity, interrelatedness, flexibility, non-dogmatism, problem anticipation, emphasis on problem-solving, and ‘practise what you preach’.Environmental education alone and by itself will not solve all environmental problems, but environmental education is a prerequisite for better environmental management and, ultimately, for safeguarding The Biosphere.

Notes: Abstract The first class constraint conditions of relativistic direct interaction dynamics have been solved. Their solution expresses the many-body interactions in terms of the two-body interactions in perturbation expansion. The n-body interaction is of order g smaller than the (n-1)-body interaction. The expressions are considerably simpler than those obtained previously.

Notes: Abstract We consider hadron production ine +-e − annihilation within the framework of a hydrodynamic model. The two key assumptions in the moddel are (i) the initial shape of a Lorentz-contracted disc for the hadronic fireball, with the jet axis providing the necessary longitudinal direction and (ii) the criterion of a critical size of hadronic dimension for the expanding fireball to break up into finalstate particles. Experimental data on charged multiplicity, inclusive distributions, dispersions and particle spectra upto the highest centre-of-mass energy, presently accessible in colliding-beam machines, are explained satisfactorily with only three energy-independent parameters. The present analysis brings out the similarity in the mechanism for hadron production inp-p collision ande +-e − annihilation and attributes the apparent differences to the presence of leading-particle effect in the former process.

Notes: Abstract The demand for water has been increasing steadily with increases in population and standard of living. The food and energy crises of the Seventies have made water resources development a priority issue in many countries. Agriculture currently accounts for 80 % of all global water consumption but hydroelectric generation does not consume any water. Since irrigation and hydropower generation are compatible uses of water, most recent water developments include both these uses. Quantity of water available to any country is limited, but demands are continually rising. Accordingly, water use has to be made more efficient and options like interregional water transfers have to be explored. The paper outlines the problems and prospects associated with long distance water transfer projects and discusses the latest plans for this type of development in the People's Republic of China.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary An X-ray fluorescence method is described for the determination of niobium in iron-niobium alloy in the concentration range from 0.1–2% of niobium. The sample is dissolved in a mixture of nitric and hydrofluoric acid and is converted to a stable oxide. This oxide is uniformly ground with boric acid and a weighed quantity of it is pressed into a circular pellet. The pellet is exposed to an X-ray beam from a tungsten target. The resulting fluorescent X-ray beam is dispersed using an LiF crystal and the intensity of the NbK α-line is measured by a scintillation counter. A set of synthetic standards covering the above range is prepared using highpurity chemicals and a working curve for the estimation of niobium is established. The accuracy of the method is checked by analysing synthetic samples. The standard deviation of the method ranged from 0.5% at 5% Nb to 3.5% at 0.1% of Nb concentration.

Notes: Thermal stabilities of the crosslinked N-vinylcarbazole/poly(N-vinylcarbazole)-furfural polymers and of the phosphonic acid resins prepared thereform were studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The overall thermal stability of the crosslinked polymers is greater than the same for poly(N-vinylcarbazole) and is further improved upon phosphorylation. The resins are stable in 5N acids and water at 100°C. Isothermal oxidative degradation studies of the resins indicate significant increase in the capacities. pH metric titration of the resins shows the presence of mono and dibasic phosphonic acid groups. The resins realize about 90% of their capacities within 2 min of equilibration.
