Notes: Abstract In the present paper an attempt has been made to draw theoretically a correlation between the well-known Paschen curve and the high-frequency breakdown characteristic of a gas device by interpreting electron mean free path in terms of the frequency of the applied field. The analytical high-frequency breakdown characteristic, so obtained, agree fairly well with the experimental results.

Notes: Summary The interaction between anionic (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate) surfactant and nonionic (Tri and Tetra propylene glycol monomethyl ether) surfactant was studied using nuclear magnetic resonance measurement. It was observed that the addition of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate to the solution of nonionic surfactant (Tri and Tetra propylene glycol mono methyl ether) caused an upfield shift of the central protons of the nonionic surfactants. The aromatic protons of sodium-dodecyl benzene sulfonate undergo a very small, almost negligible, downfield shift. The changes in the chemical shift values and the integration values of the polypropylene protons and benzene protons was interpreted in terms of mixed micelle formation with the simultaneous presence of highly fluid mixed micelles of varying compositions.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Lithium and indium doped nickel oxide samples have been prepared with up to 3 at. % of dopant. The electrical properties of these samples have been studied. All the samples exhibit p-type conductivity which increases with lithium doping and decreases upon doping with indium. Dehydrogenation of 2-propanol on these catalysts increases with the hole concentration in the solid. Desorption of acetone appears to be the rate-determining step. A possible mechanism for the reaction is proposed.

Notes: Summary Penicillin stimulates the formation of ribonuclease in embryoless rice (Oryza sativa L.) endosperm and enhances gibberellin-induced response. Penicillin-induced RNase production is completely inhibited by abscisic acid.

Notes: Abstract We study a general class of confinement potentials in Schrödinger theory using the analytic theory of continued fractions. We construct an infinite continued fraction representation for the Green's function and study its convergence, its analytic properties in the major coupling constant and its relation to the perturbation series. We prove the existence of normalizable confined state eigensolutions with equally spaced energy levels if certain constraints on the coupling constants of the theory are satisfied: we also show that under a separate set of constraints neither bound nor confined states exist.

Notes: Abstract Important as water is to man's manifold activities, a significant percentage of mankind still do not have access to clean water for drinking and personal hygiene. According to a WHO survey of facilities available in developing countries to the end of 1975, 75 % of urban population and 20 % of rural population have access to potable water. Studies carried out by the UN system estimate that investment necessary to provide clean water and sanitation by 1990 to both rural and urban areas is on the order of $ 132,940 million in constant 1977 dollors. Furthermore, provision of clean water alone is unlikely to eliminate all water-borne diseases, since it is only one of several complex factors affecting human health. The situation in developing countries on water requirements for agriculture, industry and generation of hydroelectric power also requires attention because of large amounts of water involved. Effectiveness and efficiency of the supply and distribution systems must be given top priority. There is a considerable potential for improving the efficiency of water use in virtually every developing country and in every sector.
