Description / Table of Contents: Influence of the Composition of Mixed Solvents on the Stability and Formation Constants of Copper (II) and Nickel(II) Complexes of Substituted 1,2-DioximesThe stability constants cK1, cK2, and cβ2 of the complexes which are formed in the systems M2+/DH2, M2+/Ac—DH2, and M2+/Et, Me\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ \oplus $\end{document}—DH2 (M2+ = Cu2+, Ni2+; DH2, Ac—DH2, Et2Me\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ \oplus $\end{document}—DH2 = 1,2-dioximes) are determined in water and in water-dioxane mixtures (25, 50 and 75 per cent). Because of the stabilisation of the l,2-complexes by intramolecular hydrogen bonds cK2, is always higher than cK1.On account of the decrease of the dielectricity constant the constants cK1, cK2, and cβ2, rise with increasing contents of dioxane in the mixtures. The influence of the dielectricity constant may be eliminated by considering the formation constants cK1(B), cK2(B), and cβ2(B). The individual formation constants cK1(B) of the 1,l-complexes investigated are independent of the composition of the solvent, but among the overall formation constants cβ2(B) this comes true only for the complexes Ni(Ac—DH)2, Ni(Et2Me\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ \oplus $\end{document}—DH)2, and Cu(Et2Me\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ \mathop {\rm N}\limits^ \oplus $\end{document}—DH)2. With Cu(DH2) and Cu(Ac—DH)2 a linear relation between log cβ2(B) and the molar fraction of water is stated. This effect is attributed to a specific solvatation of the chelates Cu(DH)2 and Cu(Ac—DH)2 by water.

Description / Table of Contents: Nickel(0) Complexes with the Donor Set N2P2Mixed ligand complexes of the type (dipy)Ni(PR3)2 are stabil, provided the n-donor α,α′ -dipyridyl is combined with a tertiary phosphine or a phosphite acting as a π-acceptor. They may be prepared from (R3P)2Ni(C2H4) and dipy, from (dipy) Ni(COD) and PR3, or from (dipy) Ni(C2H5)2 and PR3. Starting with [(C6H11)3P]2Ni(C2H4) or (dipy)Ni(COD) the synthesis of the complex (dipy)Ni[P(C6H11)3]2 containing only n-donor ligands, failed. By the reaction of (dipy)Ni(C2H5)2 with (C6H11)3P the olefin complex [(C6H11)3P]2Ni(C2H4) was formed.

Description / Table of Contents: The Influence of Ring Size on the Structure of Metal Chelates with Tridentate Ligands. I. Copper(II) and Zinc(II) Chelates of Bis[β-(pyridyl-2)ethyl]amine and [β-(Pyridyl-2)-ethyl] [(pyridyl-2)methyl]amineThe tridentate ligands 2.3-py2tri and 3.3-py2tri form 1,1-complexes with copper(II) salts, having the coordination numbers 5 or 6. The less bulky ligand 2,3-py2tri is also tridentate in the 1,1-complexes of zinc. But 3,3-py2tri in combination with polarisable anions like chloride, bromide, or iodide induces a tetrahedral structure in complexes of this type. One of the pyridine donor atoms remains non-coordinated.Using 2,3-py2tri in excess, 1,2-complexes may be prepared both of copper(II) and of zinc (II) With 3,3-py2tri under the same conditions oligomeric hydroxy complexes [Cu(3,3-py2tri)(OH)Y]n and Zn2(3,3-py2tri)2(OH)(ClO4)3, or binuclear compounds like Cu2(3,3-py2tri)(ClO4)4 are formed. In the latter case a part of 3,3-py2tri has the function of a bridging ligand. In spite of the lower basicity and of the stiffening by heteroatomatic rings there are close relations between 2,3-py2tri or 3,3-py2tri and the aliphatic amine ligands 2,3-tri and 3,3-tri.

Description / Table of Contents: Reaction of Nitrogen-Containing Thallium(I) Chelates with Carbon DisulfideThallium(I) chelates of β-ketoenamines (IV) and α-picolyl ketones (VIII) are formed starting with the ligands (II und III) and thallium ethylate. But the synthesis is not generally practicable. As in the case of Tl(acac) carbon disulfide causes an electrophilic substitution at the central carbon atoms of the chelaterings of IV and VIII yielding dithallium compounds of dithiocarbonic acids (X and XI). A comparison of the i.r. spectra (II → IV → X, III → VIII → XI) shows X but not XI to be a metal chelate.

Description / Table of Contents: On the Influence of the Solvent on the Acidity of Substituted 2,3-Butanedione OximesThe oximes and dioximes of substituted 2,3-butanediones and their corresponding cations and anions may be classified as neutral, pseudo-neutral, and anion acids. Their electrolytic dissociation may be described by the protonation constants cK1n of their conjugated bases. In dioxane-water mixtures with an increasing content of dioxane a strong increase of cK1n is observed for neutral and anion acids, but only a slight one for the pseudo-neutral acids. The change of cK1n is attributed to the influence of the dielectric constant and to differences in the solvatation of the acids and of their conjugated bases in mixtures with a different content of dioxane. In the case of the 1-amino-2,3-butanedione 2-oximes and of the 1-amino-2,3-butanedione dioximes, two tautomeric species are observed, the ammonium-oximates and the amine-oximes. The shift of the tautomery equilibrium to the amineoxime in solutions with a high content of dioxane causes an abnormal dependence of cK1n on the composition of the solvent.
