Description / Table of Contents:
At 640°C the system Li—Cu—As is dominated by two extended singlephase areas, which cover the compositions from Li3As to Li2CuAs (hexagonal) and from Cu9.5As4 to about Li6Cu3As4 (Cubic). The cubic high-temperature phase forms two phases when cooled to mean temperatures. The first mean-temperature phase(h̄) results at 610°C; the range of homogeneity is limited by compositions Li5.8Cu3.2As4, Li3.4Cu5.7As4 and LiCu0.8As. The second one, (h 14), is formed at 460°C; its range of homogeneity is nearly fixed by the composition LiCu2As.The following hexagonal compounds are found when the samples are cooled to room temperature: Li2CuAs from the Li3As high-temperature phase, furthermore Li5.8Cu3.2As4 (h 26) and Li3.4Cu5.7As4 (h 25) (isotypic compounds), LiCuAs (h 9) from the first mean-temperature phase (h̄), moreover a phase (h 42) with a composition near to LiCu4.7As2, and a phase (h 27) with an unknown composition. The crystal structure of Li2CuAs is determined. The lattice constants of all phases are given. β-Cu3As has a hexagonal high-temperature modification which is reversibly formed at 450-470°C. Its lattice constant a is a/√3 of that of β-Cu3As.
Notes:
