Description / Table of Contents:
The mono-dimethyl etharate of carbon oxide-bis(hydroxide) OC(OH)2 - in aqueous solution: carbonic acid H2CO3 - has been prepared by interaction between a suspension of Na2CO3 in dimethyl ether and HCl at -33°C; the dimethyl ether was distilled off at -80°C in vacuo. The existence of OC(OH)2 · O(CH3)2 has been verified by chemical and thermochemical methods and IR and NMR spectra.By determing the decomposition pressures the heat of formation of OC(OH)2 · O(CH3)2 was determined (ΔHf = -202 ± 6 kcal/mole); the heat of formation of OC(OH)2 was calculated (ΔHf = -153 ± 10 kcal/mole).OC(OH)2 · O(CH3)2 has its melting point at -47°C; liquid OC(OH)2 · O(CH3)2 seems to be polymeric.
Notes:
