Description / Table of Contents: Thoriumnitride-imide, Th2N2(NH), was prepared from thorium and ammonia at 400 to 550°C and 2500-5500 atm. The compound is an analogue to Th2N2O; the crystal structure corresponds to a monoclinic distorted La2O3-lattice.A new modification of Th3N4 was obtained by thermal degradation of Th2N2(NH) or by quenching samples prepared by heating Th3N4 and ThO2 together. This β-Th3N4 is isotypic with Th2N2(NH); the transformation to α-Th3N4 is monotropic.

Description / Table of Contents: ThNF has been prepared by ammonolysis of ThF4 in a current of ammonia at 850°C. The compound is resistant against moisture, it crystallizes in a rhombohedral layer type lattice, isotypic with LaOF. ThNF can also be prepared from Th3N4 and ThF4. This reaction also yields two further phases ThNxF4-3x. The phase with 0.94 ≥ x ≥ 0.88 is tetragonal, whereas the other one with 0.87 ≥ x ≥ 0.79 is orthorhombic. The same methods yielded the compounds ThNCl, ThNBr, ThNJ at 650°C. The sensitivity against moisture increases in the same order. They crystallize isotypic with BiOCl.
