Description: Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration (PBHCI) is intended to improve the overall wellness of people with serious mental illness by providing integrated health care services in a setting where the population already receives care. This report describes the results of RAND’s evaluation of the PBHCI grants program, including how grantee programs were implemented, whether the program leads to improvements in outcomes, and which program models and features lead to better processes of care and consumer outcomes.

Description: In 2001, Arkansas ranked 45th of 50 states on a composite score of all health outcomes. Arkansas is now a regional leader in tobacco control. This summary of the final biennial report documents the Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission’s continued activity and progress, and gauges the effectiveness of the state’s seven health-related programs in the past decade. Included is an evaluation of the changes in health outcomes attributed to these programs.

Description: In order to analyse the mid- and long-term impacts of energy related policies, different modelling approaches can be derived. However, the results of even the best energy system model will highly depend on the underlying input data. First, in this contribution the importance and availability issues of grid data in the context of energy system modelling are highlighted. Second, this paper focuses on power grid modelling based on open and publicly available data from OpenStreetMap using open source software tools. Two recent approaches developed to build electrical transmission network models using openly available data sources are presented and discussed. The proposed methods provide transparent assumptions, simplifications and documentation of grid modelling. This results in the ability of scientists and other stakeholders to validate, discuss or reproduce the results of energy system models. Thus the new open approaches offer a unique opportunity to increase transparency, comparability and reproducibility of results in energy system modelling.

Description: Located between the Northern Province of Zambia and the southeastern Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lakes Mweru and Mweru Wantipa are part of the southwest extension of the East African Rift System (EARS). Fault analysis reveals that, since the Miocene, movements along the active Mweru-Mweru Wantipa Fault System (MMFS) have been largely responsible for the reorganization of the landscape and the drainage patterns across the western branch of the EARS. To investigate the spatial and temporal patterns of fluvial-lacustrine landscape development, we determined in-situ cosmogenic 10Be and 26Al using Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. A total of twenty-six quartzitic bedrock samples were collected from knickpoints across the Mporokoso Plateau (south of Lake Mweru) and the eastern part of the Kundelungu Plateau (north of Lake Mweru). Samples from the Mporokoso Plateau and close to the MMFS provide evidence of temporary burial. By contrast, surfaces located far from the MMFS appear to have remained uncovered since their initial exposure as they show consistent 10Be and 26Al exposure ages ranging up to ~830 ka. Reconciliation of the observed burial patterns with morphotectonic and stratigraphic analysis reveals the existence of an extensive paleo-lake during the Pleistocene. Through hypsometric analyses of the dated knickpoints, the potential maximum water level of the paleo-lake is constrained to ~1200 m asl. High denudation rates (up to ~40 mm ka−1) along the eastern Kundelungu Plateau suggest that footwall uplift, resulting from normal faulting, caused rapid river incision, thereby controlling paleo-lake drainage. The complex exposure histories recorded by 10Be and 26Al may be explained because of lake water-level fluctuations caused by active normal faulting along the MMFS coupled with intense climate variations across southeastern Africa.

Description: Glacial deposits on the high-altitude, arid southern Central Andean Plateau (CAP), the Puna in northwestern Argentina, document past changes in climate, but the associated geomorphic features have rarely been directly dated. This study provides direct age control of glacial moraine deposits from the central Puna (24°S) at elevations of 3900–5000 m through surface exposure dating with cosmogenic nuclides. Our results show that the most extensive glaciations occurred before 95 ka and an additional major advance occurred between 46 and 39 ka. The latter period is synchronous with the highest lake levels in the nearby Pozuelos basin and the Minchin (Inca Huasi) wet phase on the Altiplano in the northern CAP. None of the dated moraines produced boulder ages corresponding to the Tauca wet phase (24–15 ka). Additionally, the volcanic lithologies of the deposits allow us to establish production ratios at low latitude and high elevation for five different nuclide and mineral systems: 10Be, 21Ne, and 26Al from quartz (11 or 12 samples) and 3He and 21Ne from pyroxene (10 samples). We present production ratios for all combinations of the measured nuclides and cross-calibrated production rates for 21Ne in pyroxene and quartz for the high, (sub-)tropical Andes. The production rates are based on our 10Be-normalized production ratios and a weighted mean of reference 10Be production rates calibrated in the high, tropical Andes (4.02 ± 0.12 at g−1 yr−1). These are, 21Neqtz: 18.1 ± 1.2 at g−1 yr−1 and 21Nepx: at g−1 yr−1 (En ) scaled to sea level and high latitude using the Lal/Stone scheme, with 1σ uncertainties. As 3He and 26Al have been directly calibrated in the tropical Andes, we recommend using those rates. Finally, we compare exposure ages calculated using all measured cosmogenic nuclides from each sample, including 11 feldspar samples measured for 36Cl, and a suite of previously published production rates.

In:  KTB Report 90-6b: Integrated Seismics Oberpfalz 1989; Longterm Logging and Testing Programme of the KTB-Oberpfalz VB
    Publication Date: 2022-05-23
Description: The tool chain SEKAN 5 developed and constructed by PRAKLASEISMOS was proved to be capable of withstanding long-term operation under the given pressure and temperature conditions in a chemically active Dehydrill HT mud in the KTB Oberpfalz VB lA (350 bar, 110 °C, pH 10-11). The tool comprises five identical seismic receiver sondes which are equipped with a three-component receiver system, an electrically driven clamping unit and a magnetic compass system. The results of the reference tests and the measured compass values were subjected to critical checks. For the observation period the reference tests on different days for each individual sonde indicated good agreement with respect to specific signal forms. The differences in orientation determined from the seismic data and the compass values are between -11 degrees and -26 degrees. The cause of the differences can be explained in that the wave paths lie outside of the observation plane.
