Description: A massive atmospheric release of radioactive 106Ru occurred in Eurasia in 2017, which must have been caused by a sizeable, yet undeclared nuclear accident. This work presents the most compelling monitoring dataset of this release, comprising 1,100 atmospheric and 200 deposition data points from the Eurasian region. The data suggest a release from a nuclear reprocessing facility located in the Southern Urals, possibly from the Mayak nuclear complex. A release from a crashed satellite as well as a release on Romanian territory (despite high activity concentrations) can be excluded. The model age of the radioruthenium supports the hypothesis that fuel was reprocessed ≤2 years after discharge, possibly for the production of a high-specific activity 144Ce source for a neutrino experiment in Italy.

Description: It is demonstrated that the characters which sofar have been considered to be typical for the subgenus Pachyfissidens are also found in several species which on good grounds are included in the subgenus Fissidens. Therefore Pachyfissidens can not be maintained as a subgenus; however, on account of a certain similarity in habit caused by the thickness of the leaves and on the ground of the fact that in all its species a central cylinder is normally lacking, Pachyfissidens is retained as a section. F. rochensis Broth., a species formerly placed in Pachyfissidens is transferred to the section Bryoidium.

Description: The present paper is intended to be the first of a series on the species of Pachylomidium from all over the world. It has been prepared under supervision of Dr. P. A. Florschütz (Instituut voor Systematische Plantkunde, Heidelberglaan 2, Utrecht). The species of Pachylomidium are characterised by leaves which are completely or nearly completely bordered, with a nerve which nearly or completely reaches the apex, smooth cells and a pluristratose border. The species of this section grow exclusively near running water and are inundated during part of the year. Unfortunately there are some species which are more or less transitional between this section and other ones. I will deal with these problems more extensively in a following paper.

Description: In Note I it is shown that the delimitation of the sections Bryoidium, Pachylomidium, Aloma and Semilimbidium subsect. Bryolimbidium is very vague. Consequently they are united. The resulting section contains the type species of the genus Fissidens and the correct name for it is, therefore, Fissidens. In Note II F. bambergeri Schimp. ex Milde, F. firmus Linb. ex Roth, F. herzogii Ruthe in Herzog, F. canariensis Bryhn and F. bilewskyi Pot. Varde are reduced to synonymy under F. minutulus Sull. F. minutulus is described, figured and characterized. Besides, it is compared with F. ovatifolius Ruthe. F. pusillus (Wils.) Milde, F. minutulus Sull. and F. viridulus (Swartz) Wahl, are compared and found to be three distinct species. F. subimmarginatus Phil, is reduced to synonymy under F. exiguus Sull.

Description: Two not previously recorded Belgian indigenes, viz. F. arnoldii Ruth, and F. monguillonii Thér., and one new Dutch one are reported. It is pointed out how these species can be distinguished from those species with which they are most likely to be confused. It is also indicated in what kind of habitat they are to be expected.

Description: The interest of the second author in the variability of Melongena melongena (L.) was aroused by the discovery of a population of dwarf specimens living in shallow tidal pools connected with the mangrove lagoon of Lac, Bonaire, in 1976 (see Figs 1-4). Further collecting resulted in bringing together a rather large number of recent and subrecent shells from various Caribbean localities which served as a base for the present study (see Appendix).
