    Description / Table of Contents: Antarctica preserves a rock record that spans three and a half billion years of history and has a remarkable story to tell about the evolution of our Earth, from the hottest crustal rocks yet found in an orogenic system, to the assembly and breakup of Gondwana in the Phanerozoic. This volume highlights our improved understanding of the tectonic events that have shaped Antarctica and how these potentially relate to supercontinent assembly and fragmentation. The internal constitution of the East Antarctic Shield is assessed using information available from the basement geology and from detritus preserved as Mesozoic sediments in the Trans Antarctic Mountains. Accretionary orogenesis along the proto-Pacific margin of Antarctica is examined and the volumes of intracrustal melting compared with juvenile magma additions in these complex orogenic systems assessed. This volume demonstrates the diversity of approaches required to elucidate and understand crustal evolution and evaluate the supercontinent concept.

    Notes: CeO2 has been considered as one of the most lattice compatible and chemically stablematerials for YBa2Cu3O7-x coated conductors. In this paper, we presented the epitaxial growth ofCeO2 thin film on both YSZ single crystal and cube textured Ni5W substrates by MOD method.Homogenous, crack-free and dense CeO2 thin films on both substrates with sharp biaxially cubetexture were fabricated by post-annealing the precursor films at 1000-1150°C. For the CeO2 film onthe textured Ni5W substrate, the FWHM values of (111) Phi-scan and (002) rocking curve werearound 6°and 7°, respectively, the surface roughness was less than 2 nm over an area of 1μm×1μmobserved by AFM. It was found that the CeO2 thin film improved both the in-plane orientation andsurface roughness of the Ni5W substrate, indicating that the as deposited CeO2 films were suitablefor the further growth of YBCO superconductor layer

    Notes: It is well know that Ni-5at.% W(Ni5W) and Ni-9.3at.% W(Ni9W) alloy substrates aretwo kinds of promising materials to be employed in coated conductors. The Ni5W substrate is veryeasy to produce cube texture, while the Ni9W alloy has a lower magnetic property and higherstrength. However, the pure cube texture are not capable to be obtained in Ni9W alloy. In this work,the preparation and texture development in both Ni5W and Ni9W alloy substrates have beenreported. Highly biaxial textured Ni5W substrate was fabricated by cold rolling, followed by threedifferent annealing routes. The texture analysis indicated that a sharp cube texture was formed afterannealing at a wide temperature range of 800-1100°C in as rolled Ni5W substrate. The high qualityof cube orientation was obtained after a two step annealing (TSA) with farthing twin boundariesanalyzed by EBSD. Furthermore, in order to obtain a pure cube texture in Ni9W alloy substrate, atypical rolling process was performed and the deformation texture was optimized in thesesubstrates. The designed deformation texture components were obtained in Ni9W alloy whenpre-heating the ingot at 250 °C before performing a cold rolling, which shows a possibility to formcube texture in Ni9W alloy substrate after annealing

    Notes: MgB2 thin films have been coated on Nb substrates without any buffer layers. An in situpulsed laser deposition (PLD) method was used to prepare the coating. The interface between filmsand substrates has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Surface impedancehas been measured for the MgB2 films on Nb substrates. The results were discussed with regard to thepotential large scale applications in superconducting RF cavities

    Notes: Abstract.  The problems of cyclic colorings (due to Ore and Plummer) and diagonal colorings (due to Bouchet, Fouquet, Jolivet, and Riviere) were simultaneously generalized by Hornak and Jendrol into d-diagonal colorings. A coloring of a graph embedded on a surface is d-diagonal if any pair of vertices which are in the same face after the deletion of at most d edges of the graph are colored differently. A cyclic coloring is a 0-diagonal coloring, and a diagonal coloring is a 1-diagonal coloring.  These types of problems have proved hard for graphs of low maximum face size. Equivalent problems are the Four Color Theorem, Ringel's 1-embeddable problem, and the Nine Color Conjecture. Previously, general results for d-diagonal colorings have only been established for maximum face size at least eight, and for graphs all of whose faces are the same size. This paper establishes the first results on d-diagonal colorings for graphs whose maximum face size is between four and seven, and improves the known upper bounds for maximum face size between eight and ten. The proofs use five instances of the Discharging Method.

    Notes: Abstract The miscibility of poly(vinyl chloride)/atactic poly(methyl methacrylate (PVC/a-PMMA) blends was investigated by nonradiative energy transfer fluorescence spectroscopy using naphthalene-labeled PVC (PVC-N) with anthracene-labeled PMMA (PMMA-A), or anthracene-labeled PVC (PVC-A) with carbazole-labeled PMMA (PMMA-C). The two sets of results indicate an increase in energy transfer efficiency, corresponding to an increase in blend miscibility, as the PVC concentration increases and, more importantly, demonstrate that the same information about blend miscibility can be obtained using different donor-acceptor chromophore pairs and by changing the polymer to which the donor or the acceptor is attached. The effect of the tacticity of PMMA on its miscibility with PVC was also investigated using PMMA-C and PVC-A labeled polymers. The results confirm that PVC/a-PMMA blends are more miscible than PVC/i-PMMA blends over a large range of compositions.
