    Abstract: The purpose of this book is to introduce the classified chemical components of hypoglycemic compounds in natural products, summarize the recent research progress of natural products with hypoglycemic activity in the past 20 years, and provide the original analysis and development opinions of relevant scholars. Hypoglycemic compounds are to target diabetes mellitus, an important public health problem, one of four priority noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) targeted for action by world leaders. Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine and metabolic disease, which not only causes physiological damage to patients' kidneys, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular vessels, peripheral blood vessels, nerves and eyes, but also causes mental and psychological pressure to patients. Due to the evidence that traditional medicine and natural herbal formula have advantages in treating diabetes, natural products with hypoglycemic activity have been studied extensively in recent years and have been accepted by many scholars all over the world. This book focuses on the progress on the study of the structure, hypoglycemic activities, structure-activity relationships and mechanism of a wide range of polysaccharides, flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, terpenoids, polyphenols and other constituents. It will help students and researchers to understand current approaches and progress in the treatment of diabetes with natural products, which may also be beneficial to develop new hypoglycemic drugs.

    Notes: Summary The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was used to amplify a 356-bp DNA segment containing the suspected BamHI polymorphic site of the factor IX gene. Following the enzyme digestions and gel electrophoresis, polymorphic genotypes (-,+ and +/- types) were observed. The gene frequencies for the rare (+) allele are about 36% in blacks and 2% in Caucasians. The 356-bp DNA was further purified and sequenced. The sequencing gels revealed a single nucleotide substitution (T to G) at position-561 of the gene in blacks and Causians. The T-to-G transversion generated a new BamHI site (GGATCC,+type) from a nonenzymatic site, (TGATCC,-type).

    Notes: Summary Hemophilia B is due to multiple molecular defects in the factor IX gene. Over 80% of mutations are single base substitutions. By amplification and direct sequencing, 51 single base substitutions were found in the transcribed sequence of the factor IX genes of patients from 50 distinct families with hemophilia B. These include 30 mutations in 29 families not previously reported by us; of these, 12 are novel, i.e., not previously published in other series. Of the 51 substitutions in our overall series 23 (45%) occurred as C-to-T or G-to-A transitions at 11 sites within CG dinucleotides. It is estimated that CG transitions occur from one to two orders of magnitude more frequently than mutations in nucleotides that are not within a CG pair. More than one family had identical defects for 6 of the CG mutations. At 4 of these sites, most patients had different haplotypes compatible with distinct mutations. Non-CG-type mutations occurred thoughout the coding regions with only one mutation in more than one family. The latter included 7 families with a 397 Ile-to-Thr defect that all share a rare haplotype, suggesting a common ancestor.

    Notes: The dry friction behaviors of reaction-bonded silicon carbide (RB-SiC) with different particlesizes were studied at high temperature using pin-on-dick friction testing method. The results showed thatthe friction coefficient of RB-SiC was the highest at 300°C, and lower at room temperature and 600°C,but the wear rate of RB-SiC would be increased with the increase of temperature. The XRD analysis ofgrits showed that there was only the amorphous silica in grits at room temperature, whereas theamorphous and crystal silica combined in grits tested at 600 °C. The wear mechanisms of RB-SiC at roomtemperature and elevated temperature were analyzed by of scanning electron microscopy (SEM)observation on worn surface morphology of RB-SiC

    Notes: To study the biomimetic mineralization behaviour of piezoelectric pulp-cap films, bioelectretchitosan films were prepared by polarization in an electric field and soaked in PBS with lysozyme forpiezoelectricity attenuation testing. The results showed that comparing these with samples stored in anexsiccator, the films soaked in PBS had accelerated d33 loss. Calcium phosphate crystals nucleated andgrew on the surfaces of samples soaked in supersaturated calcification solution at 37[removed info] for 1, 6, 12 and 24h. OCP and HA were found to co-precipitate on the surfaces within 24 h of immersion. This novelpiezoelectric inorganic-organic pulp-cap has the potential to be applied in dental pulp capping

    Notes: AlN thin films have been deposited on p-(100) Si and glass substrates by pulsed bias arc ionplating at different negative substrate biases. The crystal orientation, deposition rate and mechanicalproperty of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction, nanoindenter and UV-VISspectrophotometer. The results reveal that pulsed bias has a large influence on film preferredorientation, deposition rate and mechanical property. A preferred (110) orientation is observed in thefilm deposited at a bias of -50V. With the increase of the bias, film deposition rate decreases firstsharply then wildly; Film hardness and elastic modulus first increase, then decrease and finallyincreases. Higher value of film harness obtained at the bias of -50V and -500V relates to the (110)preferred orientation and grain refinement respectively
