Conclusions 1 The parameters of the hydraulic shock in the hydraulic chamber depend on the ratio of the mass of the liquid to the mass of the impactor, the size of gap between the impactor and chamber, the compliance of the elements of the chamber — especially the bottom — and the presence of an air layer between the impactor and liquid. 2. The use of the relations in [2] to calculate the parameters of the shock is valid only if the following conditions are met: the cavity above the liquid is evacuated; the gaps between the impactor and chamber and the strains of the chamber wall are small. Even in this case, however, the formulas give exaggerated values of pressure and understated values of pressure pulse length. In other cases, it will be necessary to conduct further experimental and theoretical studies to establish the dependence of the parameters of the hydraulic shock on several design features of the chamber, the compliance of the walls, and other factors.
