Description: During the Ming-Qing transition (roughly from the 1570s to the 1680s), literati-officials in China employed public forms of writing, art, and social spectacle to present positive moral images of themselves and negative images of their rivals. The rise of print culture, the dynastic change, and the proliferating approaches to Confucian moral cultivation together gave shape to this new political culture. Confucian Image Politics considers the moral images of officials—as fathers, sons, husbands, and friends—circulated in a variety of media inside and outside the court. It shows how power negotiations took place through participants’ invocations of Confucian ethical ideals in political attacks, self-expression, self-defense, discussion of politically sensitive issues, and literati community rebuilding after the dynastic change. This first book-length study of early modern Chinese politics from the perspective of critical men’s history shows how images—the Donglin official, the Fushe scholar, the turncoat figure—were created, circulated, and contested to serve political purposes.

Description: Extreme precipitation over drylands, especially deserts, has been often observed. The precipitation changes in Chinese deserts have been rarely studied. Here, we use a daily grid precipitation dataset generated via weather station data (0.25° horizontal grid spacing) to investigate the spatial and temporal changes in extreme precipitation in Chinese deserts. The extreme precipitation based on the changes in the total precipitation (PRCPTOT) and the annual-maximum daily precipitation (Rx1day) in the Chinese desert exhibits markedly increasing trends and presents a spatial distribution of wetting in the western deserts and drying in the eastern deserts. The increase in extreme precipitation could minimize wind erosion and intensify dune stabilization in the western Chinese deserts.

Notes: Semi-solid Continuous roll-casting process applied to produce the AZ91D magnesiumstrips and its microstructure was studied in this paper. In order to examine further process abilityand forming property of the roll-casting strips, hot and cold rolling and punching experiments wereinvestigated. It was clarified that it is significant to combine the semi-solid process techniques withroll-casting techniques, through which we can get high quality magnesium alloy strips with nondendriticstructure and improve the overall properties of the products. The largest deformation bycold rolling and hot rolling can reach 18% and 21% respectively with one-pass roller

Notes: Semi-solid AZ91D magnesium slurry was prepared by mechanical stirring method andthe evolution of microstructure under different technological parameters such as castingtemperature, standing time, stirring time and stirring speed et al were studied. The results show thatthe technological parameters have great influence on the microstructure of the semi-solidmagnesium slurry. Neither too high nor too low stirring speed is a benefit to form the semi-solidstate; stirring time is also not too long; higher casting temperature is unfavorable; with theincreasing of standing time, the steady-state apparent viscosity of the slurry increases rapidly, thenumber of nucleation increases and the crystalline structure becomes finer

Notes: Abstract  A peptide-based vaccine must be bound and presented by major histocompatibility complex class I molecules to elicit a CD8+ T-cell response. Because class I HLA molecules are highly polymorphic, it has yet to be established how well a vaccine peptide that stimulates one individual’s CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes will be presented by a second individual’s different class I molecules. Therefore, to facilitate precise comparisons of class I peptide binding overlaps, we uniquely combined hollow-fiber bioreactors and mass spectrometry to assign precise peptide binding signatures to individual class I HLA molecules. In applying this strategy to HLA-B*1501, we isolated milligram quantities of B*1501-bound peptides and mapped them using mass spectrometry. Repeated analyses consistently assign the same peptide binding signature to B*1501; the degree of peptide binding overlap between any two class I molecules can thus be determined through comparison of their peptide signatures.

Notes: The crystal structure, phase relation, microstructure and dielectric properties of microwavedielectric ceramics comprised of Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 were investigated systematically using XRD, SEM anda network analyzer in this study. XRD results show that the Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics have theorthorhombic for all x values. However, two kinds of solid solutions phase regions based on columbitestructure and ZnTa2O6 structure were observed. SEM results show that the growth of grains is restrainedwith increase of Ta content in Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics. The dielectric properties exhibited a significantdependence on the crystal structure and compositions of the ceramics. The dielectric constant (εr) ofZn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics increased with increasing Ta content. However, the quality factors (Q×f) ofthis system show a different trend, and decrease with increasing Ta content. At x=0.65, a zero temperaturecoefficient of resonant frequency ( τf) can be realized in Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics system
