During alkaline hydrolysis of poly-N-vinylpyrrolidon (PVP) γ-aminobutyric acid (AMBS) and acetic aldehyd are splitted of while poly-N-vinyl-γ-AMBS-units are formed to a minor amount. Acetic aldehyd is probably responsible for cross-linking during hydrolysis.Hydrolysis of PVP in melting kryoskopic mixture of NaOH/KOH yields high-grade hydrolysed products. These products contain about 2/3 of weight poly-N-vinyl-γ-AMBS-units.Properties of the new polyampholytes are briefly charaterized.

Bei der Hydrolyse von Polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP) in wäßriger alkalischer Lösung erfolgt neben einer geringfügigen Bildung von Poly-N-vinyl-γ-aminobuttersäureeinheiten eine Abspaltung von γ-Aminobuttersäure (AMBS) und Acetaldehyd. Der Acetaldehyd ist mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit für die dabei auftretende Vernetzung verantwortlich.Durch die Hydrolyse von PVP in der Schmelze eines kryoskopischen Gemischs von NaOH/KOH erhält man weitgehend hydrolysierte Produkte, die bis zu 2/3 ihres Gewichts Poly-N-vinyl-γ-AMBS-Einheiten enthalten.Die Eigenschaften dieser neuen Polyampholyte werden kurz charakterisiert.
