Notes: [Auszug] Fremlin2 suggests that some physical concept of temperature must be introduced before the mathematics becomes valid, and shows that if the temperature is defined on a kinetic model (that is relating the temperature to the random velocities of the molecules) then the body appears cooler to any ...

Notes: [Auszug] In order to obtain the actual size of the grain at any instant, we made the further assumption that the speed of the grain remained constant throughout the motion, and was not affected by collisions with the gas molecules. In this communication we dispense with this assumption and take into account ...

Notes: [Auszug] It should be stressed that we are discussing the evolution of the central star only, the dust being regarded merely as a means of redirecting radiation back on to the surface of this star. We do not tackle the much more complex problem where the dust shell is itself modified because it has modified ...

Notes: [Auszug] A type of evolution governed by simple equations such as these is mathematically convenient, for it makes it possible to evaluate the mass, radius and age of a star on the basis of the observed luminosity and temperature. Unfortunately, however, it does not correspond with the observed HR diagrams. ...

Notes: [Auszug] Let each of the two identical bodies emit an amount of radiation L0 as measured by an observer at rest relative to the body. The transverse Doppler effect now requires that the observer on the other body, moving with a speed V, receives amount of radiation Hence each observer emits L0 and receives ...

Notes: Abstract The parent bodies of a number of major meteoroid streams are not in doubt and the orbits of these parents are also well determined. For these major streams individual orbits for a significant number of member meteoroids have also been determined. There is a significant spread in the determined values of the semi-major axis of individual meteoroids in a particular stream and this paper assumes that this spread is caused primarily by a variation in the ejection process and draws conclusions regarding the value of the ejection velocities from this.

Notes: Abstract Current theories for planetary formation are briefly reviewed together with the general astronomical background. The main intention is to provide a general survey of the whole problem rather than to discuss details. In emphasizing the existing problems, we hope to stimulate further work.

Notes: [Auszug] Spectra were obtained using the Intermediate Dispersion Spec-trograph on the 2.5-m Isaac Newton Telescope on La Palma, together with a blue-sensitive Tektronix 1,024 x 1,024 pixel CCD (charge-coupled device) as detector. On the night of 19 July 1994, the R300V grating was used to give a wavelength ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN a recent publication, Donnison and Williams1 discussed the possible effects which a circumstellar dust shell could have on the evolution of a premain sequence star surrounded by it. If l is the fraction of energy emitted bythe star that returns back to it, then they concluded that (1 - l)/l, can ...
