Solid State Reactions with HexafluorosilicateDescription of thermal decomposition of Na2SiF6, BaSiF6 and especially K2SiF6 is given. During decomposition of K2SiF6 a line at d = 4.07 Å arises in the x-ray diagram, which does not correspond to cristobalit. The line belongs to formed KF layers, which act as an active component of the solid in halogen exchange reactions. Crystalline KF does not occur in the x-ray diagram. An analogous change in lines has been observed with Rb2SiF6 (d = 4.22 Å). The action of an active Si—F component during SiF6-decomposition has been found in the reaction with NaCl. There is a F transport into the NaCl layer and a Cl transport into K2SiF6. Under these conditions an equivalent transport of cations does not take place.
Notes:
