Abstract From the micro- and macroscopic points of view, the damage evolution of weld-simulated heat affected zone (HAZ) is studied. In the framework of continuum damage mechanics (CDM), the ductile and low cycle fatigue (LCF) damage evolution laws of HAZ have been examined. Two alternative laws of damage are proposed in this paper, which may meet the need for describing damage evolution of ductile rupture and LCF fracture, respectively.
