    Description: A filterscope diagnostic system has been mounted to observe the line emission and visible bremsstrahlung emission from plasma on the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak during the 2014 campaign. By this diagnostic system, multiple wavelengths including D α (656.1 nm), D γ (433.9 nm), He ii (468.5 nm), Li i (670.8 nm), Li ii (548.3 nm), C iii (465.0 nm), O ii (441.5 nm), Mo i (386.4 nm), W i (400.9 nm), and visible bremsstrahlung radiation (538.0 nm) are monitored with corresponding wavelength filters. All these multi-channel signals are digitized at up to 200 kHz simultaneously. This diagnostic plays a crucial role in studying edge localized modes and H-mode plasmas, due to the high temporal resolution and spatial resolution that have been designed into it.

    Description: All positive-stranded RNA viruses with genomes 〉~7 kb encode helicases, which generally are poorly characterized. The core of the nidovirus superfamily 1 helicase (HEL1) is associated with a unique N-terminal zinc-binding domain (ZBD) that was previously implicated in helicase regulation, genome replication and subgenomic mRNA synthesis. The high-resolution structure of the arterivirus helicase (nsp10), alone and in complex with a polynucleotide substrate, now provides first insights into the structural basis for nidovirus helicase function. A previously uncharacterized domain 1B connects HEL1 domains 1A and 2A to a long linker of ZBD, which further consists of a novel RING-like module and treble-clef zinc finger, together coordinating three Zn atoms. On substrate binding, major conformational changes were evident outside the HEL1 domains, notably in domain 1B. Structural characterization, mutagenesis and biochemistry revealed that helicase activity depends on the extensive relay of interactions between the ZBD and HEL1 domains. The arterivirus helicase structurally resembles the cellular Upf1 helicase, suggesting that nidoviruses may also use their helicases for post-transcriptional quality control of their large RNA genomes.

    Description: The effect of a medium-density DC-current and its direction on the directional solidification microstructure and cooling behavior of Pb-80wt%Sn alloy were studied. Experimental results indicated that the microstructure was refined with DC compared to the one without. With the increase of DC density, the primary ( λ 1 ) and secondary ( λ 2 ) dendrite arm spacing of the primary phase decrease clearly. It is also found that not only the intensity of the DC current but also its direction affects the microstructure. The size of λ 1 and λ 2 , in samples treated with positive DC, decreases more clearly than in those with negative DC. The interface morphology in samples processed without and with DC is different when the current direction is changed. Finally, the mechanism of microstructure evolution is discussed.

    Description: As the main body of the Liaohe River Delta, the Panjin Wetland plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance throughout the region. The analysis of the correlation between NDVI and meteorological factors was carried out on reed wetland by using the normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) data of Panjin Reed Wetland from 2006 to 2015 and such meteorological data as ten-day average temperature, ten-day precipitation, ten-day sunshine duration, ten-day relative humidity and ten-day evaporation capacity. The results showed that the NDVI of Panjin Reed Wetland had no obvious year-to-year changes from 2006 to 2015 and showed a slight upward trend with small fluctuations. However, the NDVI of Panjin Reed Wetland had significant intra-annual changes and was depicted as a single-peaked curve in the crop growing season.     Description: We present a promising technology for nonvolatile flexible electronic devices: A direct fabrication of epitaxial lead zirconium titanate (PZT) on flexible mica substrate via van der Waals epitaxy. These single-crystalline flexible ferroelectric PZT films not only retain their performance, reliability, and thermal stability comparable to those on rigid counterparts in tests of nonvolatile memory elements but also exhibit remarkable mechanical properties with robust operation in bent states (bending radii down to 2.5 mm) and cycling tests (1000 times). This study marks the technological advancement toward realizing much-awaited flexible yet single-crystalline nonvolatile electronic devices for the design and development of flexible, lightweight, and next-generation smart devices with potential applications in electronics, robotics, automotive, health care, industrial, and military systems.

    Description: Base on Northeast China region, according to land surface reflectivity of FY3B/MERSI data from 2011-2015, the underlying surface index of lakes and reservoirs, the original spectrum, normalized difference water index during different periods, were obtained. The monthly change was analyzed as well. Meanwhile, combined with GIS data, the model of extracting area was built. Using the TM data, the method was verified. The results indicated that the spectral reflectance are in accordance with the characteristics of water, with high reflection area in blue and green bands, low reflection area in near-infrared band ( 〈 6%), and more obvious reflectance spectral characteristics corresponding to higher cleanliness of water. The method could make area extracting in large scale. The method has higher accuracy up to 90%, which provides a preliminary method for the application of domestic satellite data.

    Description: The aim of this study was to compare fine root (≤2 mm diameter) traits (i.e. biomass distribution and architecture) of three tree species ( Alniphyllum fortunei , Liquidambar formosana and Cyclobalanopsis glauca ) growing in a mixed-species stand in a subtropical forest. Fine root samples were collected using soil cores. The collected samples were scanned with the Win-RHIZO system to analyse architectural parameters and were then oven-dried to determine dry mass. Fine roots of the three species were mainly distributed in the top 15 cm of soil and decreased with soil depth across all horizontal distances. C. glauca had the highest fine root biomass at 15–30 cm depth at 1.0 m from the tree trunk. The specific fine root area (SRA) and the length (SRL) were the highest for C. glauca , followed by L. formosana and A. fortunei . These species use different soil exploitation strategies. The early-successional species ( A. fortunei and L. formosana ) increase their fine root biomass and length through high carbon investment, whereas late-successional species ( C. glauca ) increase nutrient uptake efficiency via changes in fine root morphology and higher SRA and SRL values. In secondary broadleaved forest management and mixed plantation establishment, root trait differences among tree species and their effects on belowground competition and species coexistence should be considered.

    Description: NONCODE ( http://www.bioinfo.org/noncode/ ) is an integrated knowledge database dedicated to non-coding RNAs (excluding tRNAs and rRNAs). Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been implied in diseases and identified to play important roles in various biological processes. Since NONCODE version 3.0 was released 2 years ago, discovery of novel ncRNAs has been promoted by high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). In this update of NONCODE, we expand the ncRNA data set by collection of newly identified ncRNAs from literature published in the last 2 years and integration of the latest version of RefSeq and Ensembl. Particularly, the number of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has increased sharply from 73 327 to 210 831. Owing to similar alternative splicing pattern to mRNAs, the concept of lncRNA genes was put forward to help systematic understanding of lncRNAs. The 56 018 and 46 475 lncRNA genes were generated from 95 135 and 67 628 lncRNAs for human and mouse, respectively. Additionally, we present expression profile of lncRNA genes by graphs based on public RNA-seq data for human and mouse, as well as predict functions of these lncRNA genes. The improvements brought to the database also include an incorporation of an ID conversion tool from RefSeq or Ensembl ID to NONCODE ID and a service of lncRNA identification.     Description: De novo germline mutations (DNMs) are the rarest genetic variants proven to cause a considerable number of sporadic genetic diseases, such as autism spectrum disorders, epileptic encephalopathy, schizophrenia, congenital heart disease, type 1 diabetes, and hearing loss. However, it is difficult to accurately assess the cause of DNMs and identify disease-causing genes from the considerable number of DNMs in probands. A common method to this problem is to identify genes that harbor significantly more DNMs than expected by chance, with accurate background DNM rate (DNMR) required. Therefore, in this study, we developed a novel database named mirDNMR for the collection of gene-centered background DNMRs obtained from different methods and population variation data. The database has the following functions: (i) browse and search the background DNMRs of each gene predicted by four different methods, including GC content (DNMR-GC), sequence context (DNMR-SC), multiple factors (DNMR-MF) and local DNA methylation level (DNMR-DM); (ii) search variant frequencies in publicly available databases, including ExAC, ESP6500, UK10K, 1000G and dbSNP and (iii) investigate the DNM burden to prioritize candidate genes based on the four background DNMRs using three statistical methods (TADA, Binomial and Poisson test). As a case study, we successfully employed our database in candidate gene prioritization for a sporadic complex disease: intellectual disability. In conclusion, mirDNMR ( https://www.wzgenomics.cn/mirdnmr/ ) can be widely used to identify the genetic basis of sporadic genetic diseases.

    Description: We analyse the Suzaku X-ray Imaging Spectrometer data of the central region of supernova remnant G332.5-5.6. The X-ray data are well described by a single non-equilibrium ionization thermal model, vnei , with an absorbing hydrogen column density of 1.4 $^{+0.4}_{-0.1}$   x  10 21  cm –2 . The plasma is characterized by an electron temperature of 0.49 $^{+0.08}_{-0.06}$ keV with subsolar abundances for O (0.58 $^{+0.06}_{-0.05}$ solar value) and Fe (0.72 $^{+0.06}_{-0.05}$ solar value) and slightly overabundance for Mg (1.23 $^{+0.14}_{-0.14}$ solar value). It seems that the central X-ray emission originates from a projection effect or evaporation of residual clouds inside G332.5-5.6. We estimate a distance of 3.0 ± 0.8 kpc for G332.5-5.6 based on the extinction–distance relation. G332.5-5.6 has an age of 7–9 kyr.
