Notes: Summary We shall consider an application of simple exponential splines to the numerical solution of singular perturbation problem. The computational effort involved in our collocation method is less than that required for the other methods of exponential type.

Notes: Summary In this paper we develop a multi-step method of order nine for obtaining an approximate solution of the initial value problemy'=f(x,y),y((x0)=y 0. The present method makes use of the second derivatives, namely, $$y'' = \frac{{\partial f}}{{\partial x}} + f(x,y)\frac{{\partial f}}{{\partial y}}$$ at the grid points. A sufficient criterion for the convergence of the iteration procedure is established. Analysis of the discretization error is performed. Various numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the practical usefulness of our integration method.

Notes: Abstract In this report we survey numerical techniques of order 2, 4 and 6 for the solution of a two-point boundary value problem associated with a fourth-order linear ordinary differential equation. A sufficient condition guaranteeing a unique solution of the boundary value problem is also given. Numerical results are tabulated for two typical numerical examples and compared with some known methods including the shooting technique employing the classical fourth-order Runge-Kutta method.

Notes: Abstract A finite-difference method for the integration of the linear two-point boundary value problem $$y'' = f(x)y + g(x), y(a) = y_a , y(b) = y_b $$ is constructed. It uses values off′,f″,g′,g″ at the grid points to obtainO(h 8) global error, and allows strict global error bounds, while needing only the solution of a tridiagonal system of equations. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the practical usefulness of our method.

Notes: Abstract A finite difference method for the numerical integration of the linear two-point boundary value problem $$y^{(4)} + f(x)y = g(x),y(a) = A_1 ,y(b) = A_2 ,y''(a) = B_1 ,y''(b) = B_2$$ is constructed and analyzed. The method usesf′,f″,g′,g″ at the boundary points to obtain anO(h 6) global error, while requiring only the solution of a system of linear equations associated with a five-band matrix. A typical numerical example is included to demonstrate the practical usefulness of the numerical procedure as well.

Notes: Abstract For a given histogram, we consider an application of a simple rational spline to a shape preserving area true approximation of the histogram. An algorithm for determination of the spline is as easy as one with a quadratic polynomial spline, while the latter does not always preserve the shape of the histogram. Some numerical examples are given at the end of the paper.

Notes: Abstract In the present paper we shall consider an application of simple non-polynomial splines to a numerical solution of a weakly singular two-point boundary value problem:x −α (x α y′)′=f(x,y), (0〈x≤1) subject toy′(0)=0,y(1)=c 1(α≥1) ory(0)=c 2,y(1)=c 3(0〈α〈1). Our collocation method gives a continuously differentiable approximation and isO(h 2)-convergent.
