Description / Table of Contents: Contents The time patterns of short-circuit currents and therefore of the electromagnetic short-circuit forces in DC bus systems are very manifold; they only can be expressed by use of several parameters. For each of these patterns a substitute time function can be determined (rectangle or sinussquare) which causes about the same maximum instantaneous value of mechanical strength, like the original electromagnetic force, if the short-circuit duration is less than the half period of the mechanical oscillation. After suitable modification the rectangle function can also be used if the short-circuit duration is greater than the half period of the mechanical oscillation.

Notes: Contents In this paper, the short-circuit forces acting on the phase-conductors of arrangements with 3-phase steel enclosure, are examined. In the case of tubular conductors the forces result from the vector potentials calculated in the different arrangement areas. The potentials result as Fourier series ofn terms; their coefficients are determined from the numerical solution of a 10×n algebraic equations system. But in the case of filamentary conductors the corresponding system of equations consists of two independent systems, 4×n equations each, that can be analytically solved and lead to simpler relations for the forces. Parametric investigations showed that, for the praxis arrangements, the influence of the conductor radius on forces is very small and consequently the conductors may be considered as filamentary. The influence of the relative permeability, the conductivity and the thickness of the shell on the electromagnetic forces has also been examined.

Notes: Contents Complete analytic relations and one very accurate approximate formula for the computation of the shell losses in three phase gas insulated systems are given in this paper. The shell may be of magnetic or nonmagnetic material. The complete analytic relations are derived from the solution of the boundary condition problem. The shell losses are expressed by a Fourier series ofn terms. Parametric investigations related to the effect of the geometric and electrical data as well as of the number of the terms of the Fourier series on the losses have been conducted. From these investigations one approximate analytic formula was derived. With this formula the shell losses can be calculated very accurately.

Notes: The theory and practice of risk measurement provides a point of intersection between risk management, economic theories of choice under risk, financial economics, and actuarial pricing theory. This article provides a review of these interrelationships, from the perspective of an insurance company seeking to price the risks that it underwrites. We examine three distinct approaches to insurance risk pricing, all being contingent on the concept of risk measures. Risk measures can be interpreted as representations of risk orderings, as well as absolute (monetary) quantifiers of risk. The first approach can be called an “axiomatic” one, whereby the price for risks is calculated according to a functional determined by a set of desirable properties. The price of a risk is directly interpreted as a risk measure and may be induced by an economic theory of price under risk. The second approach consists in contextualizing the considerations of the risk bearer by embedding them in the market where risks are traded. Prices are calculated by equilibrium arguments, where each economic agent's optimization problem follows from the minimization of a risk measure. Finally, in the third approach, weaknesses of the equilibrium approach are addressed by invoking alternative valuation techniques, the leading paradigm among which is arbitrage pricing. Such models move the focus from individual decisiontakers to abstract market price systems and are thus more parsimonious in the amount of information that they require. In this context, risk measures, instead of characterizing individual agents, are used for determining the set of price systems that would be viable in a market.

Notes: Abstract We address the problem of estimating an unknown probability density function from a sequence of input samples. We approximate the input density with a weighted mixture of a finite number of Gaussian kernels whose parameters and weights we estimate iteratively from the input samples using the Maximum Likelihood (ML) procedure. In order to decide on the correct total number of kernels we employ simple statistical tests involving the mean, variance, and the kurtosis, or fourth moment, of a particular kernel. We demonstrate the validity of our method in handling both pattern classification (stationary) and time series (nonstationary) problems.

Notes: Abstract A truly parallel logic programming system is proposed. The system is based on the commercially available parallel logic programming language STRAND, which has been extended in order to overcome the inherent limitations of such systems, like AND-type of parallelism, lack of backtracking, limited unification, etc. The system has been tested using an example from the area of natural language processing.

Description: microRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) that act as post-transcriptional regulators of coding gene expression. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been recently reported to interact with miRNAs. The sponge-like function of lncRNAs introduces an extra layer of complexity in the miRNA interactome. DIANA-LncBase v1 provided a database of experimentally supported and in silico predicted miRNA Recognition Elements (MREs) on lncRNAs. The second version of LncBase ( www.microrna.gr/LncBase ) presents an extensive collection of miRNA:lncRNA interactions. The significantly enhanced database includes more than 70 000 low and high-throughput, (in)direct miRNA:lncRNA experimentally supported interactions, derived from manually curated publications and the analysis of 153 AGO CLIP-Seq libraries. The new experimental module presents a 14-fold increase compared to the previous release. LncBase v2 hosts in silico predicted miRNA targets on lncRNAs, identified with the DIANA-microT algorithm. The relevant module provides millions of predicted miRNA binding sites, accompanied with detailed metadata and MRE conservation metrics. LncBase v2 caters information regarding cell type specific miRNA:lncRNA regulation and enables users to easily identify interactions in 66 different cell types, spanning 36 tissues for human and mouse. Database entries are also supported by accurate lncRNA expression information, derived from the analysis of more than 6 billion RNA-Seq reads.
