Conclusions 1. A study was made of the effect of stress concentration (notches of varying sharpness) on the form of the fatigue curve in the region of low-cycle fatigue fracture. It was established that there was a direct link between the fatigue curve parameters and the stress concentration as determined by the sharpness of the notch. 2. It was shown that differences in the nature of fatigue curves for smooth test pieces in various materials were due to the effect of local microinhomogeneous plastic deformation. An increase in the level of microinhomogeneous deformation, which is determined by the alloy structural state, causes qualitative changes in the form of the fatigue curve, as does an increase in the stress concentration.
