    Description / Table of Contents: Summary The existence of a coupling, due to wave-particle resonance interaction, between magnetospheric radio emissions, i.e. auroral kilometric radiation (AKR), and auroral radio noise(AN), separated in an inhomogeneous magnetospheric plasma by an opacity barrier, is studied. It is proved that the ballistic process can only take place on the electrons of the superthermal component of the plasma, i.e. on particles of auroral electron fluxes of the inverted V type, due to finite width of the AKR spectral lines, which amounts to 1 kHz. Analyses indicate that its effectiveness is sufficient to explain radio emission coupling and that it increases with the degree of auroral activity.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary The conditions are studied under which ballistic effects of “transmission” of waves through opacity barriers can be observed in magnetospheric experiments on board satellites. The mechanism of this effect consists of the regeneration of the radiation beyond the barrier by resonance electrons, modulated by a quasimonochromatic wave incident and reflected from the barrier. Ballistic processes in continuously inhomogeneous plasma are studied. Detailed analysis has been carried out for a barrier with a parabolic density profile. Recommendations are presented as to experimental procedures in circumterrestrial space and data processing. The possibilities are studied of observing ballistic effects in the course of active space experiments with sources of intensive broadband turbulence such as beam of charged particles, injected into the magnetosphere.

    Notes: Summary The ELF-VLF experiment onboard the Interkosmos 10 satellite consisted mainly of a broadband receiver covering the frequency range from 20 Hz to 22 kHz. The signal level in this broad band has also been measured, as well as the level in two narrow bands with centre frequencies of 720 Hz and 4 kHz. The electric component of the ELF-VLF fields has been measured by using an electric dipole antenna, 2.35 m in length. The purpose of this paper is to characterise the data obtained by the broadband RTT transmissions at the Panská Ves station during the seven-months active period of the satellite. The spectral analysis of all broad-band ELF-VLF recordings has been used. Examples of some typical phenomena, most frequently observed at different invariant latitudes are given.

    Notes: Summary The results of the winter anomaly observations at the Panská Ves Observatory on 2775 kHz and 2614 kHz (A3 method, feq≈1 and 0.8 MHz) are studied for the winters of 1971/72 and 1972/73. Ionospheric responses to minor (1972) and major stratospheric warmings are found to be different and relatively small. A regular winter-anomaly background absorption increase with a maximum in January was observed during both winters studied. Magnetic storms are found to play an insignificant, if any, role in the winter-anomaly phenomenon. The relation between magnetic activity and ionospheric absorption seems to be better in non-anomalous periods.

Вuсключumельных случaях сu нaлы можно нaблю¶rt;amь ¶rt;aже нa рaссmоянuях больще 2000 км. Только в 10-mu nроценmaх случaев нaблю¶rt;aлось зa сu нaлом, nрохо¶rt;ящuм через uоносферу, эхо с зanоз¶rt;aнuем оm 2,3 ¶rt;о 3,6 с. Покaзывaеmся, чmо нauболее верояmным мехaнuзмом uх вознкновенuя являеmся кaнaлuзuровaнное нaсnросmрaненuе в ¶rt;aкmaх в¶rt;оль сuловых лuнuŭ мa нumно о nоля (вблuзu L=3) aнaло uчно вознuкновенuю ¶rt;вускaчковых свuсmов. В мa нumосоnряженноŭ облaсmu к nере¶rt;amчuку, рaбоmaющему в южном nолущaрuu нa осmрове Лa реюнuон (L=1,35), нaблю¶rt;aлuсь сu нaлы в uнmервaле 1,5〈L〈3 с зanоз¶rt;aнuем 0,3–0,6 с. Было усmaновлено кaк кaнaлuзuровaнное maк u некaнaлuзuровaнное рaсnросmрaненuе сu нaлов. Нaблю¶rt;енuе нauболее uнmенсuвных u неuскaженных сu нaлов вблuзu L=1,8 объясняеmся кaнaлuзuровaннымu рaсnросmрaненuем в хорощо сформuровaнном ¶rt;aкmе, блuжaŭщем nере¶rt;amчuку.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary The occurrence zone of the VLF chorus in the upper ionosphere appears at L-shells lower than plasmapause position Lpp; with increasing geomagnetic activity the spatial dimension of the zone diminishes, its upper boundary being shifted in correspondence with the plasmapause position, the lower remaining practically without change(L=2.0÷2.5). Calculations of propagation paths have shown that the similarity of the VLF chorus spectrum at different upper-ionospheric latitudes as well as the large spatial dimension of the zone of observation can be explained as special features in the propagation of VLF waves from an equatorial source, starting in the vicinity of the plasmapause with different initial normal angles.
