    Notes: In this experiment, un-dried silver-hydroxyapatite-titania nanoparticles slurry was used tomake membrane with Polyamide-66 by co-polymerization method. The morphology, chemicalcomponents and structures of the membrane were characterized by AAS, XRD, SEM and EDX. S.aureus, E. eoli, P.gingivalis, F.nucleatum and S.mutans were utilized to test the antibacterial effect.XRD results demonstrated that the membrane have characteristic diffraction peaks of pure HA. Ahomogeneous distribution of the Ca, P, Ti, and Ag element in the membrane was confirmed byEDX. Both surface and section showed porous structure which was confirmed by SEM and theholes size was average 20-30μm. The bacteria assay reflects to the antibacterial effect, 56.31 % ofS. aureus and 50.10 % of E. eoli were killed after 24 hours incubation. However, 91.84 % of P.gingivalis, 90.64 % of F. nucleatum and 90.49 % of S. mutans were killed and pictures of SEMshowed obviously fewer cells on the surface. So the nanocomposite membrane could be one of thebioactive materials with antibacterial properties for oral GBR technique

    Notes: Based on the molecular recognition theory, an organic molecules model was designed toinduce the hydroxyapatite crystallization, to build a tooth-like calcium phosphate/hydroxyapatiteunder a controllable way in vitro. The cross-linking of collagen on the dentin surface and gelatin wasoptimized by varying the molar ratio of N,N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)- N'-ethyl-carbodiimidehydrochloride (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) at a constant EDC concentration. CaCl2 andNa3PO4-12H2O solutions were added after the crosslinking process. The whole process requiresrepeating the crosslinking and mineralization process for five times. The obtained composite werecharacterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as energydispersive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that the dentinal tubule wereblocked by neonatal hydroxyapatite layer which has a continuous structure of columns crystal withsize of 10-40nm. Furthermore, there was column crystal with parallel direction inside, similar to thecrystal array in the top of enamel rod. This study showed that the specific organic molecule model canbe used as a potential effective crystal growth modifier

    Notes: This study was focused on evaluating the bactericidal and anti-adhesive efficacy ofsilver-hydroxyapatite/ titania nanocomposites (nAg-HA/TiO2) coating on titanium against oralbacteria. Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia and Fusohacterium nucleatum andStreptococcus mutans were used. Antibacterial activity of nAg-HA/TiO2 coating was investigatedquantitatively using film applicator coating method and titanium plates incubated with bacteria wereprepared for SEM to observe the adherence of oral bacteria. The viability of each type of bacteria onthe antibacterial film was suppressed to about 10% after anaerobic incubation for 3 hours. Image ofSEM demonstrated that bacteria on sandblasting surfaces were relatively confluent whilst on coatedsurfaces fewer bacteria were observed. Adherence of bacteria on nAg-HA / TiO2-coated surfacescompared with uncoated surfaces was remarkably decreased

    Notes: Two principal forms of the actin binding protein, filamin, are expressed in mammalian cells: nonmuscle and muscle isotypes (FLN-1 and FLN-2). A protein that copurifies with an α-naphthyl acetate hydrolyzing esterase from human omentum microvessel endothelial cells (EC) is isolated by nondenaturing electrophoresis, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and electroblotting. The purified protein is subjected to in situ trypsin cleavage, reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and automated Edman degradation. Six peptide fragments from the protein are identified to have 60 - 66% identity with nonmuscle filamin (ABP-280). Two of these peptides are 100% identical to a previously sequenced human muscle filamin fragment. Polyclonal antibody is produced using a 16-residue synthetic peptide corresponding to a structural β-sheet region of muscle filamin. Compared with a variety of vascular cells evaluated, retinal pericytes express an abundance of both muscle and non-muscle filamin isotypes. Pericytes contain at least 10 times more muscle filamin than human umbilical vein EC and at least three times the amount expressed in human omentum micro-vessel and bovine pulmonary artery EC. Differential detergent fractionation indicates that both filamin isotypes are primarily localized in the cytosol and membrane/organelle fractions of pericytes. Another actin crosslinking protein, α-actinin, is primarily found in the cytosol and cytoskeletal fractions. The dynamic regulation of actin microfilament organization in pericytes may be controlled in part by the two filamin isotypes, which in turn may contribute to pericyte contractility.

    Description: The features of 30-60-day convection oscillations over the subtropical western North Pacific (WNP) were investigated, along with the degree of tropical-subtropical linkage between the oscillations over the WNP during summer 1998. It was found that 30-60-day oscillations were extremely strong in that summer over both the subtropical and tropical WNP, providing a unique opportunity to study the behavior of subtropical oscillations and their relationship to tropical oscillations. Further analyses indicated that 30-60-day oscillations propagate westwards over the subtropical WNP and reach eastern China. In addition, 30-60-day oscillations in the subtropics are affected by those over the South China Sea (SCS) and tropical WNP through two mechanisms: (1) direct propagation from the tropics into the subtropics; and (2) a seesaw pattern between the tropics and subtropics, with the latter being predominant

    Description: This paper describes the design and experimental evaluation of a silicon micro-machined resonant accelerometer (SMRA). This type of accelerometer works on the principle that a proof mass under acceleration applies force to two double-ended tuning fork (DETF) resonators, and the frequency output of two DETFs exhibits a differential shift. The dies of an SMRA are fabricated using silicon-on-insulator (SOI) processing and wafer-level vacuum packaging. This research aims to design a high-sensitivity SMRA because a high sensitivity allows for the acceleration signal to be easily demodulated by frequency counting techniques and decreases the noise level. This study applies the energy-consumed concept and the Nelder-Mead algorithm in the SMRA to address the design issues and further increase its sensitivity. Using this novel method, the sensitivity of the SMRA has been increased by 66.1%, which attributes to both the re-designed DETF and the reduced energy loss on the micro-lever. The results of both the closed-form and finite-element analyses are described and are in agreement with one another. A resonant frequency of approximately 22 kHz, a frequency sensitivity of over 250 Hz per g, a one-hour bias stability of 55 μg, a bias repeatability (1σ) of 48 μg and the bias-instability of 4.8 μg have been achieved.

    Description: Based on atmospheric circulation reanalysis, global gridded precipitation, and outgoing longwave radiation datasets, this study reveals the physical process through which the land–sea thermal contrast over East Asia interrelates with the variability of the interface between the Indian summer monsoon and East Asian summer monsoon (IIE). The results indicate that the release of latent heating exerted by the low-frequency variability of anomalous land–sea thermal contrast is one of the most important physical processes correlating with the zonal movement of the IIE, in which the release of latent heating over eastern East Asia makes the greatest contribution. When a lower apparent moisture sink occurs over the South China Sea but a higher one over southern China, an anomalously positive land–sea thermal contrast is formed. An anomalous convergent zone in relation to the positive land–sea thermal contrast, located in the eastern part of the IIE, will favor the IIE to move more eastward than normal, and vice versa. An anomalous divergent zone located in the eastern part of the IIE will benefit the IIE to shift more westward than normal. Experiments using a linear baroclinic model confirm the physical processes revealed by the observational analysis. ©2015 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg

    Description: By inversion of fault slip data for Quaternary tectonic stress field and the analysis of crustal deformation after late Teriary, we explained the evolution of crustal dynamic about the north and east margin of Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) plateau since Miocene. From middle or late Miocene to early Pleistocene, the tectonic stress field was featured by a maximum principal compression which was coming from the collision of India Plate perpendicular to the boundary of the plateau, and was basically of reverse faulting type. Since the late period of early Pleistocene, India Plate continued to push northward and the compressional deformation of the plateau interior increased continuously, meanwhile, NW-SE extension appeared on the east side of the plateau. This formed a favorable condition for the interior block of the plateau to slide towards east and southeast, causing the faults surrounding the plateau to change from thrust to strike-slip. The contemporary tectonic stress field was formed from the late period of early Pleistocene and continued to present. The direction of maximum principal compressional stress rotated clockwise with respect to the previous tectonic stress field, the stress field was mainly of strike-slip type. ©1999 Acta Seismologica Sinica

    Description: In the present reported work, we identified that there is a significant negative relationship between rainfall over South China (SC) and the East European Plain (EEP) in the months of July and August, and investigated the possible reason for this negative relationship. The correlation coefficients between SC and the EEP rainfall were calculated to be −0.42 for July and −0.35 for August, both significant at the 95 % confidence level. We report that a wave-like train of circulation anomalies and a pathway of wave-activity flux stretching from Europe to East China connect the anticyclonic anomaly over Europe and the cyclonic anomaly over central and southern China, which are responsible for less EEP rainfall and more SC rainfall. We suggest that the teleconnection between SC and EEP rainfall results from the extension of stationary Rossby waves in the mid-latitudes in the upper troposphere for both July and August. This stationary Rossby wave is contributed to by summer North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and its extension features are determined by the location and intensity of the climatological upper-tropospheric westerly jet. Furthermore, we found that there was an interdecadal change around the mid-1970s in the negative SC–EEP rainfall relationship for both July and August. The negative correlation was significant and strong in the period 1976–2005, but much weaker in the period 1955–1975. The extension of stationary Rossby waves from Europe to East China was responsible for the significant negative relationship during the period 1976–2005. ©2013 Springer-Verlag Wien
