Infrared spectroscopy (4000-50 cm-1) was used to characterize the two crystalline modifications of poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide). Polarized studies revealed that hydrogen bonds are oriented primarily perpendicular to the film plane in both forms. We also found that the crystalline modification coagulated in water could be transformed into the other form by annealing at high temperatures.
