Description / Table of Contents: The Jackknife and bootstrap are the most popular data-resampling methods used in statistical analysis. This book provides a systematic introduction to the theory of the jackknife, bootstrap and other resampling methods that have been developed in the last twenty years. It aims to provide a guide to using these methods which will enable applied statisticians to feel comfortable in applying them to data in their own research. The authors have included examples of applying these methods in various applications in both the independent and identically distributed (iid) case and in more complicated cases with non-iid data sets.

Notes: To adjust the morphology and crystallinity of the chemically prepared Zr-riched` leadzirconate titanate (Pb(Zr0.95Ti0.05)O3) powders, polyethylene glycol (PEG 20000) was used inaqueous solution (modified Pechini method). Thermal analysis of the as-synthesized gel showed twodistinct stages, which indicates the volatilization of water and the decomposition of polymers, respectively. When the gel were calcined at 400 oC, the powders consisted mainly of perovskite PZTaccompanied with small amounts of secondary phases. The higher the calcination temperatureapplied, the stronger the intensity of XRD, which means the crystallinity were improved. Scanningelectron microscopy of as-prepared powders suggested that the powders were soft agglomerateparticles when calcined at 600 to 800 oC. Compared with the normal Pechini method, PEG could helpthe formation of crystalline phase and soft agglomerate. When the powders compacts were sintered at975 to 1125 oC, high pure (〉99.5%) of tetragonal phase ceramics were got having relative density of85% to 94%

Notes: A relaxor ferroelectric material, Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) powder with a pyrochlore-freephase, was prepared by using a one-step calcinations method. The pyrochlore phase was prevented bycoating Mg(OH)2 on Nb2O5 particles. Pure-perovskite PMN powder was synthesized by a singlecalcination of the coating powder mixed with appropriate amounts of PbO at 900 oC for 2 h. Thepyrochlore-free perovskite PMN powders were sintered to 96.9% density at 1100 oC. The sinteredPMN ceramics exhibited a dielectric constant maximum of ~11 700 at room temperature at afrequency of 1 kHz

Notes: Multiple-cable single borehole anchorages are widely used in China, accepted andregarded as a very effective method for slope protection, landslide remediation and foundation ditchsupport. This paper presents a new method for testing tensional stresses of individual steel strandswithin anchor cables in single boreholes. A rig has been designed to permit testing of cables withina single borehole, including two special features: a metal plate that distributes tension betweenstrands of a cable and a sensing device that measures the stress in each individual strand. Thefeasibility of the method has been demonstrated by an in situ tensional stress test on anchor cablesat a landslide remediation site that successfully measured the forces on individual steel strandsfastened to different anchorage segments within a borehole. The steel cable strands displayed nonlinearextension characteristics; and the length of anchorage segments and grout strength met designcriteria. The results confirm that this design of anchorage is satisfactory and can provide valuabledata for future design and construction

Notes: The surface material of Elastic-metal pads(EMP) is PTFE which has poor wearability .Ion implantation can improve the wearability of EMP surface .This paper investigated thewearability improvement of the EMP’s surface by Al2O3/PTFE film which generated by ionimplantation. The accelerating voltage of the ion implantation apparatus is 40KV and the ionemitting energy of aluminum is 20KeV. The dosages of three kinds of Al3+ ion beams in the studyare 1×1015 ions/cm2, 5×1015 ions/cm2 and 1×1016 ions/cm2 respectively. The aluminum ion’sdensity is 10uA/cm2. The vacuum pressure of the ion implantation is 3×10-3Pa. The experimentalspecimens modified by Al3+ ion implantation were tested by ESCA, XRD, AFM/FFM andnanometer probe , which got the chemical bond, phase structure and friction coefficient of the film.According to the experimental results, the mathematical model was built using the FesowGeometric Model and the Halind Rang Theory. The computer simulation was made in which SRIMsimulator program was employed. The ion implantation’s energy for the simulation is 20keV andthe material density of PTFE is 2.56g/cm³. In addition, the dose is 5×1015 ions/cm², the time intervalis 230 minutes and the velocity of Al3+ ion implantation is 2.15-2.20×1013 ions/minute. Finally thesimulation curves of particle distribution, energy distribution and impairment etc. were plotted anddiscussed

Notes: The bond-orientational order in molten salt LiF, KF, and KCl systems has been studied by molecular dynamics simulation. The bond spherical harmonics have been calculated for the instantaneous local structures in computer-generated configurations of the molten salts. A new method of bond spherical harmonics calculation with equal neighbor number N has been proposed. For the standard structures with different coordination number, their quadratic invariant Ql histograms with same N have been calculated and a model with parameter of square deviation have been suggested. The Ql histograms with N=4 and N=12 for some standard structures have been given and the qualitative or semiquantitative estimations of the bond-orientational orders in those three molten salt systems have been obtained. The bond angle probability distributions have also been calculated and taken as the basis for evaluating the usefulness of the new method. The results show that the local structures in molten salt systems are somewhat similar to tetrahedron while the icosahedron structure is hardly found.

Notes: The inhomogeneity of tissue structure greatly affects the sensitivity of tissue oxygenation measurement by reflectance near-infrared spectroscopy. In this study, we investigated the influence of a fat layer on muscle oxygenation measurement by in vivo tests and Monte Carlo simulation, and we propose a method for correcting the influence. In the simulation, a three-dimensional model consisting of the epidermis, dermis, fat, and muscle layers was used. In in vivo tests, measurement sensitivity was examined by measuring oxygen consumption of the forearm muscle and the peak-to-peak variation of oxygenation in periodic exercise tests on the vastus lateralis using a newly developed multisensor type of tissue oximeter. Fat layer thickness was also measured by ultrasonography. The correction curve of measurement sensitivity against fat layer thickness was obtained from the results of simulation and in vivo tests. The values of corrected oxygen consumption were almost the same and had less variation between individuals (0.13±0.02 ml 100 g−1 min−1) than did the uncorrected values (0.08±0.04 ml 100 g−1 min−1). © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A synchrotron radiation soft x-ray beamline for scanning microscopy mainly, is being constructed in Hefei. It contains a linear monochromator consisting of a diaphragm of 7 μm diameter and one of three condenser zone plates (CZP). The three CZPs are for three overlapping wavelength ranges 1.97–2.78 nm (CZP23), 2.74–3.87 nm (CZP32), and 3.84–5.44 nm (CZP45), respectively. The processing steps for the condenser zone plate fabrication are summarized, especially the holographic exposure with a special optical system as a key step. Parameters of a prototype of CZP45 fabricated in Hefei are the following: D=2.9 mm, n=826, R1=0.05 mm, and ΔRn≈0.9 μm.
