Constituents of the Propolis, II1)Extraction of the propolis (bee glue) with n-hexane yields a solution of hydrocarbons, fatty acids, aromatic esters, and waxes. The latter have been separated by fractionating crystallisation; the other compounds were isolated by column and thin-layer chromatography. Their structures have been determined by GC/MS, NMR, and chemical degradation. The following classes of compounds have been found: monoester waxes, diester waxes, diacylglycerol ether, aromatic esters, keto waxes, hydroxy waxes, and fatty acids.
