Notes: [Auszug] In order to study the influence of stereochemical changes on the pharmacological properties of steroids, we prepared a number of steroid hormone analogues with the same configuration of the C-9-hydrogen atom and C-10-methyl group as present in Iumisterol2. Recent investigations4 showed lumistero!2 ...

Notes: [Auszug] Volatile halogenated organic compounds (VHOC) play an important role in atmospheric chemical processes—contributing, for example, to stratospheric ozone depletion. For anthropogenic VHOC whose sources are well known, the global atmospheric input can be estimated from industrial ...

Notes: Summary Nitrophenols have been determined in rain collected in Hannover (F. R. Germany) over a period of 9 months in 1988 and in snow collected in Northrhine-Westphalia (F. R. Germany) in February and March 1988. The precipitation samples were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) using an electron capture detector (ECD), a nitrogen sensitive detector (NPD) and a chemiluminescence detector (thermal energy analyzer, TEA) and by combined gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) using both electron impact (EI) and negative ion chemical ionization (NICI) and in addition by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a photodiode array detector. 2-Nitrophenol, 4-nitrophenol, 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol, 2,6-dimethyl-4-nitrophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP), 2,4-dinitro-6-methylphenol (DNOC), 2,4-dinitro-6-sec-butylphenol (Dinoseb), one additional methylnitrophenol and two additional dimethylnitrophenols have been identified, several other compounds have been identified tentatively. In most instances 4-nitrophenol is the predominant component observed in concentrations ranging from 0.5–17.1 μg/l in rain and from 〈0.5–16.1 μg/l in snow.

Notes: Summary A method is described to determine nitrophenols and two herbicides (Bromoxynil, Ioxynil) in precipitation, with GC-PND and GC-MS. First, the micropollutants were extracted by a mixture of pentane and ether (1/1), concentrated by rotary evaporator, then methylated by diazomethane. The extraction and reaction yields were measured. The resulting recoveries were between 75 and 100% for the mononitrophenols and about 70% for methylnitrophenols. The detection limits were about 0.25 μg/l for most substances.

Notes: Summary A technique has been developed for the determination of dimethyl- and diethylmercury. It is based on the separation by reversed-phase HPLC, on-line decomposition of the dialkylmercury compounds by H2O2 and UV-irradiation, reduction with alkaline sodium borohydride, followed by gas liquid separation of mercury vapour and determination by cold vapour atomic absorption detection. The method permits the simultaneous determination of dimethyl- and diethylmercury by RP C18 HPLC-CVAAS. The limit of detection (S/N=3) for both compounds was calculated to be about 30 ppb.

Notes: Summary A procedure for qualitative and quantitative analysis of sediments is described. The sample preparation and evaluation of the measurement results is suitable for routine analysis. The heavy metals were determined by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis in SEM and the quantitative analysis was carried out by micro-computer. The limits of detection are below 10 ppm. The confidence interval is 99.7%.

Notes: Abstract Two methods are described for the routine determination of triazine degradation products in water. After solid phase extraction by means of RP-C18 cartridges, the separation and detection were carried out using either HPLC (for hydroxy-atrazine [OHA], hydroxy-simazine [OHS], hydroxy-propazine [OHP], hydroxy-terbutylazine [OHT] and hydroxy-desethylatrazine [OHDEA]) or GC-MS (only for OHA, OHS, OHP and OHT after methylation with diazomethane). The HPLC set-up is described for detecting the hydroxy-triazines, including hydroxy-desisopropylatrazine (OHDIA), hydroxy-desethyldesisopropylatrazine (OHDEDIA) and cyanuric acid (CA). The average recoveries at concentration levels between 50 ng/L and 1 μg/L ranged from 35% to 43% for GC-MS (n=5) and from 53% to 75% for HPLC (n=5) with the exception of hydroxy-desethylatrazine which has been recovered with only 21%. Hydroxy-desisopropylatrazine, hydroxy-desethyldesisopropylatrazine and cyanuric acid could not be enriched on RPC18. The determination limit of the investigated compounds has to be set between 90 and 100 ng/L for both methods for OHS, OHA, OHP and OHT.

Notes: Abstract A new analytical screening technique for the determination of methylmercury and inorganic mercury in hair samples by HPLC-PCO-CVAAS has been developed. It is based on the extraction of mercury compounds by a buffered sodium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate solution, separation by reversed-phase HPLC, post column oxidation by UV-irradiation, reduction with alkaline sodium borohydride, and determination by cold vapour atomic absorption detection. The standard deviation was 7% and recoveries were 90% for both compounds. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) for both compounds was calculated to be about 4 ppb.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Sedimente eines Baches (Lauterbach), der zum Einzugsgebiet der Sieg gehört, wurden auf die Metalle Cd, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Tl, As und Pb untersucht.
Notes: Summary Sediments from a small river (Lauterbach) were examined for the metals and metalloids Cd, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Tl, As, Pb. 19 samples were taken at regular intervals. The trace metals were determined by means of XRF in SEM (description of the method in part 1). Intercorrelations between various metals were evaluated by multivariate statistical methods.
