Notes: [Auszug] While bile acids (BAs) have long been known to be essential in dietary lipid absorption and cholesterol catabolism, in recent years an important role for BAs as signalling molecules has emerged. BAs activate mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways, are ligands for the G-protein-coupled ...

Notes: We report on the results of Hall effect and photoluminescence (PL) in n-type Zn3P2 grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The Zn3P2 thin films indicated n-type conductivity instead of the usual p-type conductivity due to a strong self-compensation effect with Hall mobility and carrier concentration of 3–7×103 cm2/Vs and 3–9×1010 cm−3 at room temperature, respectively. Donor levels of 0.01 and 0.73 eV from the conduction band were identified by resistivity and Hall effect measurements. The PL spectra show donor-acceptor pair emission near 1.41 eV at 20 K ascribed to an acceptor level of 0.26 eV from the valence band. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract The general-purpose, highly parallel, cellular array processor (CAP) we developed features multiple-instruction stream, multiple-data stream (MIMD) processing and image display. Processor elements can number in several hundreds. The present system uses 256 processors. Each processor element consists of a general-purpose microprocessor, memory, and a special VLSI chip that performs parallel-processing-specific functions such as processor communication and synchronization. The VLSI has two 2M byte/s independent common bus interfaces for data broadcating and six 15M bit/s serial communication ports for local data communication. The chip also can process image data in real time for multiple processors. Use of the communication interfaces enables a variety of processor networks to be configured. One CAP application has been computer graphics, in which ray tracing is used to generate quality images.

Notes: Oryza sativa L.) have not been investigated. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the nitrate reductase activity (NRA) patterns of rice genotypes with different NRA levels under irrigated lowland conditions, and to determine the effects of NR deficiency on nitrate use, grain yield, biomass, and other agronomic characteristics. Seven cultivars and seven NR mutants were grown under irrigated lowland conditions; bioassayed in vitro for NRA at different growth stages; and evaluated for grain yield, biomass, and other agronomic characters. NADH-NRA was present at minimal levels in all cultivars before transplanting. At 15 d after transplanting (DAT), NADH-NRA in all cultivars reached optimum levels and gradually declined until maturity. A similar pattern was observed in most of the NR mutants but with lower levels of activity. NADPH-NRA in cultivars and mutants gradually increased from 15 to 45 DAT and then fluctuated between 5 to nmol NO– 2min1g1 fresh weight until maturity. Nitrate availability in the soil may significantly influence NRA and nitrate accumulation in rice in irrigated lowlands. Effects of low or deficient levels of NR on traits evaluated varied among mutants. A decrease of 27 to 73% in grain yield was observed in mutants relative to original cultivars. This study demonstrates that rice assimilates nitrate in anaerobic and flooded conditions, which may have implications for genetic improvement and nitrate or nitrogen management strategies in rice.

Notes: [Auszug] As a base for human transcriptome and functional genomics, we created the “full-length long Japan” (FLJ) collection of sequenced human cDNAs. We determined the entire sequence of 21,243 selected clones and found that 14,490 cDNAs (10,897 clusters) were unique to the FLJ collection. ...
