Conclusions The properties of powders of alumina produced by topochemical reaction, and the density and microstructure of corundum ceramic specimens produced from the powder depend on the crystallochemical characteristics of the original salt. A high-density visually transparent corundum ceramic can be produced successfully from the salt AlCl3·6H2O. Corundum ceramic produced without added modifying agent from the salt AlCl3·6H2O is of high relative density, viz., 97.9%.
