Notes: Current studies indicate that buyers can improve lead-time performance and reduce total inventory-system costs by splitting orders between two suppliers. These studies, however, treat transportation only implicitly as an element of the cost of placing an order. This is an important limitation, because shipping costs increase disproportionately as the size of shipment decreases and typically comprise a sizeable portion of total logistics cost. Investigates the role of transportation in the decision to procure from either one or two suppliers. A state-of-the art model was first modified to treat transportation costs explicitly and then used to conduct 54 experiments to measure the gains or losses in total logistics costs under a variety of representative conditions.

Notes: Summary Beside hydroxyproline collagen contains quantities of glutamine, threonine, serine, alanine and glycine, derived from proline. Remarkably large quantities of threonine have this origine, which suggests that conversions occur in the fibroblast.

Notes: Summary Rats can produce glycine from hydroxyproline and vice versa. After the injection, hydroxyproline is rapidly converted into glycine and then incorporated into collagen. Later the labelled amino acids in collagen are hydroxyproline, proline, serine, threonine, alanine, and glutamic acid. We suppose that all these labelled amino acids come from glycine.

Description: The growing emphasis on affordability for space transportation systems requires the assessment of new space vehicles for all life cycle activities, from design and development, through manufacturing and operations. This paper addresses the operational assessment of launch vehicles, focusing on modeling the ground support requirements of a vehicle architecture, and estimating the resulting costs and flight rate. This paper proposes the use of Activity Based Costing (ABC) modeling for this assessment. The model uses expert knowledge to determine the activities, the activity times and the activity costs based on vehicle design characteristics. The approach provides several advantages to current approaches to vehicle architecture assessment including easier validation and allowing vehicle designers to understand the cost and cycle time drivers.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The law protein nutrition of the nursing rat inhibits the growth of the new born rats. A percentage reduction of the dry substance by decrease of N2-free substances takes place. In relation to g dry substance the body protein content, collagen also, rises. Absolutely, these parts rest unaltered, just so the relation of the parenchymatous protein to collagen. The often support of view that starving provokes a collagen formation of the body, that means an exceed of the framework, can not be confirmed. Though in this paper we can give an explanation for the occurrence of this conclusion. Long interruptions of lactation periods remarkably have no effect on the growth and on the main compartments of the body of new born rats. Only tryptophane is reduced in favour of the serine-fraction in the body of those animals. We discuss this finding as a change of the metabolisme of tryptophane depending of stress.

Description: Many researchers and economists have argued that competitiveness studies conducted by WEF and IMD, show limitations in small-economies, even more when they have different characteristics. The objective of this research is to study the competitiveness of three small-economies: Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Singapore. The double-diamond model of competitiveness is useful when performing this task. With data obtain from international organizations. The findings suggest that Singapore shows a higher level of global competitiveness compared to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. We conclude that Puerto Rico and Costa Rica have similar levels of competitiveness, because internationally Puerto Rico leads to Costa Rica on 3 determinants: factor conditions, demand conditions and related industries. On the other hand, Costa Rica is locally more competitive than Puerto Rico in 3 domestic factors: factor conditions, demand conditions and firm's strategy.

Description: A method of estimating the costs of future space transportation systems (STSs) involves classical activity-based cost (ABC) modeling combined with systematic utilization of the knowledge and opinions of experts to extend the process-flow knowledge of existing systems to systems that involve new materials and/or new architectures. The expert knowledge is particularly helpful in filling gaps that arise in computational models of processes because of inconsistencies in historical cost data. Heretofore, the costs of planned STSs have been estimated following a "top-down" approach that tends to force the architectures of new systems to incorporate process flows like those of the space shuttles. In this ABC-based method, one makes assumptions about the processes, but otherwise follows a "bottoms up" approach that does not force the new system architecture to incorporate a space-shuttle-like process flow. Prototype software has been developed to implement this method. Through further development of software, it should be possible to extend the method beyond the space program to almost any setting in which there is a need to estimate the costs of a new system and to extend the applicable knowledge base in order to make the estimate.
