    Description: Diet of adult pikeperch Sander lucioperca, Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis, northern pike Esox lucius and European catfish Silurus glanis as top predators in aquatic ecosystems in Serbia was investigated during 2011, in order to understand their relationship to their prey and to investigate their food consumption, feeding and assimilation rate, cannibalism, and habitat segregation. Northern pike, Eurasian perch, pikeperch and European catfish were collected in three reservoirs in Serbia. Prey items that were found in all four species included fish, mollusks, insect larvae and crustaceans. A total of 11 taxonomic groups were found, but they were not all represented as a prey in all four species. Eurasian perch were present in the diet of all four predatory fish species, mollusks were recorded only in that of European catfish. Roach Rutilus rutilus and bleak Alburnus alburnus were prey to all species, except northern pike. Chub Squalius cephalus, bream Brama brama and Gammaridae were found only in stomach of pikeperch. Analysis of similarity showed that difference for diet between predatory fish species was significant for their due to significant differences existing between northern pike and pikeperch and northern pike and Eurasian perch.

    Notes: Reevaluation and recalculation of thermally stimulated current (TSC) data from semi-insulating (SI) GaAs, published by many different authors over a period of three decades were done by means of the new analytical method, simultaneous multiple peak analysis (SIMPA). The SIMPA procedure clearly resolved contributions from various overlapping TSC peaks and enabled the precise determination of signatures (activation energy, Ea and capture cross section, σ) of all observed deep traps. The analyzed TSC spectra refer to SI GaAs samples that have been grown/treated in quite different ways (various growth techniques, growth under As or Ga rich conditions, different annealing procedures, irradiation with neutrons, γ rays, etc.). Although the SIMPA procedure was applied to apparently quite different TSC spectra, in all cases excellent fits were achieved, with the unique set (or subset from it) of eleven different deep traps, the only difference being in relative and absolute concentrations of traps. Despite a broad variety of samples analyzed in this article, the set of deep traps obtained is the same as the one being previously seen in the narrow range of SI GaAs samples. This finding suggests that this set of traps is a finite and complete set of all defects with deep levels in SI GaAs. It was also concluded that these defects are primarily complexes containing simple native defects. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: A model is proposed for the photoconductivity transients and the photosensitization in semi-insulating GaAs induced by low-intensity light at low temperatures. During photoconductivity transients, the lifetime of free carriers is shown to be a time-dependent quantity, determined mainly by the trapping processes, recombination being negligible. Photosensitization and thermal restoration are explained by the filling and emptying of deep traps. Contrary to some other explanations, in this model it is not necessary to utilize the metastability of EL2 or other defects. The model is verified experimentally by an original use of the thermally stimulated current method. It is also possible to determine values of capture cross sections for dominant traps.

    Notes: The new analytical method, simultaneous multiple peak analysis (SIMPA) which comprises simultaneous fitting of whole measured thermally stimulated current (TSC) spectra is presented. The procedure clearly resolves contributions from various overlapping TSC peaks, which results in precise determination of trap parameters (signature) for each trap. In combination with photocurrent temperature dependent measurements, IPC(T), which reflects free carrier lifetime temperature dependence, the estimates of relative and absolute trap concentrations were made as well. The advantage of the SIMPA method in comparison with the single peak approach was demonstrated and analyzed. The SIMPA method was applied to different semi-insulating (SI) GaAs samples, particularly to samples having very high and others having very low deep trap concentrations; and for both extremes excellent fits were achieved. The method also seems very promising for characterization of deep levels and other similar SI materials, like SI InP or SI CdTe. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Ferroelectric Bi4Ti3O12 ceramics have been prepared by the method of reactive sintering. The ceramics exhibit good ferroelectric properties with a remanent polarization Pr=5.5×10−2 C/m2 and a coercive field Ec=3MV/m. High resolution x-ray photoelectron spectra of the atomic constituents of Bi4Ti3O12 were recorded. The obtained results indicate that oxygen vacancies are preferentially sited in the vicinity of Bi ions, in the Bi2O2 layers. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.
