Description: 〈title xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"〉Abstract〈/title〉〈p xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xml:lang="en"〉Riverbed clogging is key to assessing vertical connectivity in the hyporheic zone and is often quantified using single‐parameter or qualitative approaches. However, clogging is driven by multiple, interacting physical and bio‐geochemical parameters, which do not allow for a conclusive assessment of hyporheic connectivity with single‐parameter approaches. In addition, existing qualitative assessments lack transparency and repeatability. This study introduces a Multi‐Parameter Approach to quantify Clogging and vertical hyporheic connectivity (MultiPAC), which builds on standardized measurements of physical (grain size characteristics, porosity, hydraulic conductivity) and bio‐geochemical (interstitial dissolved oxygen) parameters. We apply MultiPAC at three gravel‐bed rivers and show how the set of parameters provides a representative appreciation of physical riverbed clogging, thus quantifying vertical hyporheic connectivity. However, more parameters are required to fully characterize biological clogging. In addition, MultiPAC locates clogged layers in the hyporheic zone through multi‐parameter vertical profiles over the riverbed depth. The discussion outlines the relevance of MultiPAC to guide field surveys.〈/p〉

Notes: A scanning Auger microscopy study has been carried out on fractured surfaces of YBa2Cu3Ox samples prepared by standard sintering procedures from powders. It is concluded that in the large-grained samples examined, a majority of the grain boundaries are sufficiently "open'' that standard metallographic preparation causes them to become contaminated with C. This suggests that an actual loss of contact at the grain boundaries during sample preparation is responsible for the low Jc values observed in bulk-sized large-grained YBa2Cu3Ox.

Notes: Abstract Adsorption measurements of hydrocarbons and water have been performed on ZSM 5 (Si/Al=30) and on two samples prepared from this by dealumination. The properties of the highly dealuminated sample agree essentially with those of silicalite obtained by direct synthesis. The pecularities in the adsorption of benzene at more than one molecule per 1/4 unit cell are discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: New Ternary Phosphides and Arsenides of Cesium and Element of the 8th Transition Metal GroupIn the ternary systems Cesium/8th transition metal group/5th main group some new compounds were found and investigated. By single crystal measurements CsRh2P2 was found to crystallize in the space group 14/mmm with the lattice constants a = 390.11 pm and c = 1429.36 pm. The new compounds with the formula CsM2X2 (M = Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Ir; X = P or As) crystallize in the ThCr2Si2-type structure, compounds of the formula Cs2MX2 (M = Ni, Pd, Pt; X = P or As) can be placed in a line with the K2PdP2-type structure.
Notes: In Dreistoffsystemen Caesium/Element der 8. Nebengruppe/5.

Description / Table of Contents: Adsorption Studies on Organosilic Acid PolymersWe present four organosilic acid polymers containing double-4-ring silicate units cross-linked at different degree by different organosilicon bridges. BET surfaces were determined and adsorption isotherms of n-hexane, benzene, nitrogen and water were measured. All polymers are hydrophobic, one of them behaves microporously, the other are unporous. With organic adsorptives, swelling and adsorption occur simultaneously. Possible relations of microporosity and structure are discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: The alkaline transesterification of vinyl acetate-acrylic acid copolymers has been investigated in dependence of the copolymer composition, the concentration of copolymer, the concentration of NaOH, and the influence of unpolar solvents added. The influence of the reaction conditions on the rate of transesterification is discussed on the base of the rest acetate content in comparison with the transesterification mechanism of PVAC.
