Abstract: The world population is rapidly aging—it is estimated that by 1950, around 17% of the population will be elderly. In this context, aging involves several physiological, psychological and highly complex social processes that vary from one person to another. For a long time, medical care for older adults has focused on treating chronic, age-related diseases and their associated consequences. Recently, biomedical research brings a novel point of view to develop more effective interventions by targeting the aging process itself rather than separate conditions. There is a growing number of reports indicating that aging is driven by several interconnected mechanisms and biological components referred to as the molecular pillars of aging. Interfering with these mechanisms could help to treat, prevent, and understand the development of age-related diseases and associated syndromes. This book provides a clinical perspective and general update on biomedical and genetic research in aging, moving from an update in the molecular pillars of aging to a perspective of the most recent pharmacological, clinical, and diagnostic applications using genomic approaches and techniques. While this book focuses on the specifics of genetics and genomics, it also adopts a clinical perspective of geroscience, which seeks to understand the genetic, molecular and cellular mechanisms that make aging an important risk factor and, sometimes, a determining factor in the diseases and common chronic conditions of older people. Additionally, Clinical Genetics and Genomics of Aging is a significant contribution to support aging research, as it shows that collaboration across disciplines is relevant to progress in the field. As more and more people benefit from increased longevity, clinician and researchers will be empowered by this knowledge to contribute to the progress of aging research.

Description / Table of Contents: Preface -- Chapter 1 Emerging Contaminants: Analysis, Aquatic Compartments and Water Pollution -- Chapter 2 Occurrence, Fate and Associated Risks of Organic Micropollutants included in the Watch List in the European Groundwater Bodies -- Chapter 3 Emergence of Pathogenic Fungi Resistant to Triazole Antifungal Drugs. A Threat from the Environment- Chapter 4 The Fate of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria in the Environment -- Chapter 5 Relationship Between Outdoor Ambient Air Pollution and Cardiovascular Disorders: A Narrative Review -- Index.
Abstract: Emerging contaminants are chemical and biological agents for which there is growing concern about their potential health and environmental effects. The threat lies in the fact that the sources, fate and toxicology of most of these compounds have not yet been studied. Emerging contaminants, therefore, include a large number of both recently discovered and well-known compounds such as rare earth elements, viruses, bacteria, nanomaterials, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, hormones, personal care products, cosmetics, pesticides, surfactants and industrial chemicals. Emerging contaminants have been found in many daily products, and some of them accumulate in the food chain. Correlations have been observed between aquatic pollution by emerging contaminants and discharges from wastewater treatment plants. Most actual remediation methods are not effective at removing emerging contaminants. This first volume presents comprehensive knowledge on emerging contaminants with a focus on analysis, toxicity, antibiotic resistance and human health.

Description / Table of Contents: -Chapter 1- Principles of modern epidemiology and public health.-Chapter 2- Conventional Molecular Biology tools and epidemiology -- Chapter 3- Genomics and epidemiology -- Chapter 4- Epigenetics in epidemiology -- Chapter 5- Transcriptomics and Alternative Splicing Principles -- Chapter 6 -Proteomics principles -- Chapter 7- Metabolomics principles -- Chapter 8 – Molecular immunology and epidemiology -- Chapter 9- Principles of microscopy for epidemiologist -- Chapter 10 -Physiomics and Phenomics.-Chapter 11 -Principles of imaging for epidemiologist -- Chapter 12- Bioinformatics and genomics for epidemiologists -- Chapter 13- Geospatial statistics and molecular epidemiology -- Chapter 14-Systems biology applied in epidemiology -- Chapter 15- Molecular pharmacological tools for epidemiologists.
Abstract: This book covers some of the most novel genetic and genomic concepts in epidemiology, such as geospatial statistics and systems biology from a clinical point of view by explaining molecular applications with accessible human studies. Featuring a comprehensive table of contents, it includes chapters from genomics and epidemiology surveillance to transcriptomics and alternative splicing principles. Across 17 well-organized chapters, this book meets attempt to explain easily to clinicians and students with basic principles of the genetics, genomics, molecular biology and its applications to epidemiology and public health. The text is distinct from other literature on the market because it covers useful genomic tools applied in epidemiology for clinicians who may not be experts in this branch of health science. Principles of Genetics and Molecular Epidemiology demystifies the idea that biomedicine is far from being applied in both epidemiology and clinical practice. .

Abstract: This volume highlights key moments and movements in this "competence turn" in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and explores the different ways in which competences have been conceptualized and implemented. By marshaling a dialogue between chapters and sections, the book provides a coherent whole that will become a key source on ESD competences. The contributors develop a conceptual map against which to chart existing (and future) ESD competence frameworks, offer new critical case studies that explore the implementation of educator competences in ESD at different structural levels in different European contexts, explore the link between pedagogy and educator competence through hitherto unpublished case studies based on current practices across Europe, and consider the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ESD and educator competence. The book comprises 23 chapters divided into four sections, with an introduction and concluding chapter. Section One introduces concepts and models related to ESD competences, while the following two sections focus on implementation and pedagogy. In light of the foregoing material, the shorter Section Four is both reflective and forward looking. The primary audience for this book will be academics and students working in the fields of Education, Sustainability Science and related disciplines.
