Description: 1 Exemplar von Sinabang (Simalur), Februar 1913. ♂. Supra nigro-fusca, subtus brunnea, opaca, clypeo, tibiis tarsisque nitidis. Clypeo rufo, subrugoso-punctato, margine antico subsinuato, fronte sparsim punctata, juxta oculos setas raras ferente; antennis 1O-articulatis, flabello maris 4-articulato, flabelli articulo primo valde abbreviato; prothorace longitudine duplo latiore, mediocriter dense punctato, punctis minutissime setosis, angulis posticis obtusis, breviter rotundatus, angulis anticis acutis, porrectis, lateribus setas erectas ferentibus; elytris punctato-striatis, interstitiis vix subconvexis, irregulariter punctatis, punctorum setis minutissimis, lateribus fortiter setosis; pygidio triangulari, apice rotundato, mediocriter dense punctato, juxta margines sparsim setoso. Subtus pectore coxisque posticis umbilicato-punctatis, pectoris medio utrinque setas longas erectas ferente, coxarum posticarum lateribus setosis, setis haud erectis, abdominis segmentis serie transversa setarum instructis; femoribus tibiisque posticis dilatatis. — Long. 10 mm.

Notes: Summary The purification of an actin-like protein from cricket egg yolk plasmodia by different selective extraction procedures, ammonium sulphate precipitation, ion exchange and immunoabsorption chromatography is described. Criteria of purity from analytical ultracentrifugation, SDS-disc electrophoresis, and immunoelectrophoresis are presented. Immunodiffusion analysis was used to control the success of the purification procedures. The molecular weight of the monomeric form is 60000±10%. Polymerization to pearl-chain aggregate structures occurs under different conditions in 0.1 M KCl in the presence of ATP. Vinblastine precipitation leads to similar structures. Possibly related structures and the possible rÔle of this protein in organizing movements in the plasmodial system are discussed.

Notes: Summary Interspecific trail following activity of poison sac contents from four species of leaf-cutting ants was investigated. With only one exception, all the species tested followed trails made from each others poison sac contents. However when the ants were given a choice of following one of two separate trails, clear differences were shown in the poison sac contents of the three species tested. The responses of 24 species of ants and one species of termite to anAtta texana (Buckley) trail pheromone were tested.
