A new version of low-noise, high-stability control, data-acquisition electronics has been designed and constructed for high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy to meet the requirements imposed by new digital signal processing techniques. The improved electronics feature fast, low-noise, high-stability, programable voltage sources with 16 bit precision for the electron optics and a custom-built 16 bit 100 MHz pulse counter. These electronics, controlled by an IBM-compatible PC through a user-friendly, graphical software interface, allow easy computerized tuning and spectral recording. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.
