    Description: A biological assessment of the Tang Sorkh River (Iran) was studied from July 2013 to August 2014 using benthic macroinvertebrate communities. Samples were gathered every two months, from five stations using a Surber sampler( 30×30cm), fixed in formalin (4%) and then separated and identified in the laboratory. Environmental conditions (current velocity, temperature, depth, width, dissolve oxygen, conductivity, pH, alkalinity, Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and grain size) were measured. In addition, diversity and biotic indices were used to determine the water quality of the river. Results showed that 5 classes, 9 orders and 20 families were identified in this river. The families Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera), Simuliidae (Diptera) and Baetidae (Ephemeroptera) were dominant. Shannon-wiener and Simpson indices showed the highest diversity at station 1 and the lowest diversity in station 4. According to the Hilsenhoff, ASPT and BMWP indices, station 1 had good water quality for aquaculture.

    Description: The chromosomal spread and karyotype of Anjak (Schizocypris altidorsalis) from Hamoun Lake were determined using tissue squashing techniques with an injection of 1 mL/100 g body weight of 0.01% colchicines solution. Kidney and gill epithelia tissues were removed and used for karyotype analysis. The analysis of 145 chromosome spreads revealed the diploid chromosome number of this fish, 2n=48 and a fundamental arm number (FN) =88. The diploid complements comprised 12 metacentric pairs, 8 submetacentric pairs, 1 subtelocentric pair and 3 telocentric pairs (12m+8Sm+1St+3t). Total length of the haploid complement equaled 44µm with a range in the length of the shortest and longest chromosome between 0.76-2.78µm. The arm ratio and the centromeric index ranged between l.00-AWT IMAGE and 0-50 respectively. This is the first report on the chromosome number and karyotype of S. altidorsalis from the Hamoun Lake in Iran.

    Description: This research aims to study is the pattern of metal elements accumulation including copper, zinc, nickel and lead in the muscle, gills, liver and kidney of Schizocypris altidorsalis, in Chahnimeh reservoirs of Sistan. For this purpose, 40 samples were collected randomly from the population in winter and spring (20 samples each season). In the next phase of the research, muscle, gill, liver and kidney tissues of the samples were cut out for further study. Then, the concentrations of heavy metals were measured using atomic absorption. The samples were already prepared and treated by nitric acid of high concentration. The results of the study showed that concentrations of copper, zinc and nickel in muscle tissue in winter season were 43.01±1.39, 143.08±0.63, 8.01±0.53 and 1.13±0.18 µgr.gr-1 dry weight, respectively. Also these results in spring were 42.90±1.50, 141.04±3.02, 7.07±1.56 and 4.32±0.22 µgr.gr-1 dry weight respectively. Totally, the highest amount of copper and zinc elements in the liver tissue and lead and nickel elements were measured in gill tissue. Finally, the results of the current research showed that the concentrations of these metals in muscle tissues are higher than limits set by FAO and WHO standards. But, the concentration of nickel was lower than FDA standard.

    Description: The aims of this study were to assess the anesthetic vigor and histopathological effects of peppermint (Mentha piperita) essential oils in common carp (Cyprinus carpio). The total number of 70 fish with the average weight and length of 8.52±1.54 g and 8.47±1.16 cm were anesthetized by various concentrations of peppermint essential oils including 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 ppm using the immersion method. The average amounts of temperature, pH and the hardness of water were 22±2˚C, 7 and 981 mg/L, respectively. The time taken to reach different stages of anesthesia, loss of equilibrium, twilight anesthesia, balance recovery and complete recovery were measured after exposure of fish to various concentrations of peppermint essential oils. In order to determine the effects of various concentrations of peppermint essential oils including 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm at time 0 and 24 h, the tissue samples that were taken from the liver, kidney and gill of fish were examined by light microscopy. The results showed that the maximum and minimum time taken to reach complete anesthesia were observed after 10±5.11 and 73±16 seconds of exposure to 200 and 500 ppm of peppermint essential oils, respectively. The minimum time taken for recovery was 300±8.4 seconds which belonged to the treatment of 200 ppm peppermint essential oils. Moreover, the results showed that by increasing the concentration of anesthetic substance, the induction of anesthesia was faster and the time taken for complete recovery from anesthesia was increased. Histopathological studies showed that the optimum concentration of 200 ppm peppermint essential oils had no side effects. Therefore, this anesthetic concentration of peppermint essential oils can be safely used.
