Abstract: The edited book deals with climate change and its response to river system which is one of the most burning issues of the Global environment. Due to urbanization and industrialization land degradation and resource depletion are happening and promoting livelihood challenges in the world which is reflected in the book too. The book addresses the construction of dams over large rivers and its possible consequences in the environment. Changes of the hydrology and sedimentology are to be addressed in the book. The climate change phenomena and associated geomorphic hazards and contemporary environmental issues such as sea level rise, coastal flood, drought, wind erosion, flood, soil erosion, landslide, depletion of ground water, coastal erosion etc. are elaborated in the book with suitable methods and techniques. So this edited book will contribute a lot to general to particular filed of studies and will help to geographers, geomorphologists, environmentalists, planners, policy makers and developers for studies and promoting regional plans and development.

Abstract: This book provides an assessment of the impacts of human intervention on the natural environment and peoples' livelihoods through land-use conversion due to industrialization. Problems of land acquisition and the execution thereof have varying consequences that depend on the specific geographical as well as socio-political contexts in which they occur. This book covers a specific study of JSW Bengal Steel Ltd., which in 2014 planned to set up a 10.0 million ton per annuam integrated steel plant at the upper catchment of Sundra basin, the tributary of the Shilabati that ultimately pours to the river Rupnarayan, located at Salboni Block of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, India. The project was ultimately put on hold, but caused many lingering environmental and socioeconomic problems due to the acquisition of formerly productive lands. The book examines this case to generate a data base on the different aspects of land acquisition and its negative impacts on the geomorphology and hydrology of non-timber forest products, agricultural impacts resulting in livelihood changes, policy dimensions of land acquisition, and the impacts of delays in project implementation through a comparative analysis between projects-affected areas and non-project areas. The book will appeal to environmental managers and industry workers, as well as students and researchers in environmental economics, anthropology, and human geography. .

Notes: A polyamideimide was synthesized from a rosin-maleic anhydride adduct in three different ways. The rosin maleic anhydride adduct was condensed with hexamethylenediamine to obtain an amino acid. This amino acid was polymerized either by melt condensation technique or by reacting with thionyl chloride at ambient temperatures to produce a polyamideimide. Polyamideimide from rosin may also be prepared by reacting acid chloride of rosin-maleic anhydride with hexamethylenediamine. The polymer was characterized by IR and elemental analysis. The polymer was found to be soluble only in highly polar solvents such as dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, m-cresol etc. The thermal stability of the polymer has been studied.

Notes: A novel polyamideimide was synthesized by reacting sulfanilamide and N-(4-carboxy phenyl) trimellitimide or its diacid chloride derivative. The solution, thermal, electrical and a few other properties of the polymer were studied. The polymer was found to be soluble in the highly polar solvents. The polymer solution was relatively stable. Thermogravimetric data revealed that the polymer underwent 12% weight loss at 375 °C in air. The dielectric constant of the polymer at 30 °C was found to be 5.45 at 1 kHz. X-ray diffraction data revealed that the polymer is crystalline in nature.
